Transmission Occasionally Jerks in 2013 EX

To start off with, my vehicle is a 2013 Civic EX with a 5 speed manual transmission.

On occasion, my vehicle jerks quite a bit when I'm moving at slow speeds. I've mostly noticed this problem after the vehicle has been stationary for a long period of time (overnight parking or something). I usually go through my parking lot in 2nd gear about 10-15mph and it almost feels like the engine speed isn't properly matching the transmission speed. I feel a sudden drag as if I dropped the clutch hard without giving an adequate amount of gas. Keep in mind, I don't ride the clutch in 2nd gear, so this drag occurs when the clutch is fully engaged and the gas pedal is being pressed (leading me to believe it's not human error)

I originally believed it to be my transmission or motor simply not warming up enough. But I allowed my vehicle to idle for 5 minutes (actually timed it, not exaggerating) last time and still had the same problem. This was also in 65-70 degree fahrenheit weather, so I don't think it's actually "cold." This problem doesn't occur every morning, only about once a week. I haven't been able to observe any other variables (night time temperature, humidity, time stationary) that is consistently present every time the problem occurs.

Other than this problem, I haven't observed any other problems with the ride quality or the transmission. The problem usually goes away after about 20 minutes (although the problem isn't observed at higher speeds).

If anyone knows how to counter this problem or fix it entirely, it would help me out a lot. It may very well be human error, but I don't believe I'm doing anything wrong. It was rather embarrassing to pull out of the parking lot with a girl I recently met to have her actually ask "How long have you been driving a manual?" -.-

2nd gear at 10mph seems like a bad combo. Does the car do the same thing if you're in 1st? At such low speeds, you probably need to be running in 1st

It's normal on 1st and 2nd gear when the clutch is fully engaged, especially on a cold start. Rotational inertia is higher on those gears.

Like they said try 1st gear and see if it happens...........

I have an LX and from my expirience i go smoothly after about 14ish mph in 2nd. 1st and 2nd gear are jerky at low speeds with the clutch fully engaged, i think its normal

I experience the same thing. It's very jerky coasting down my street to the stop sign in 2nd gear, about 20mph. Once I get to the next place with a stop sign or any traffic it's gone away. The engine is cold so it wants to idle higher, about 1400rpm, so anything close to that causes it to jerk. Nothing to worry about I don't think!

Thanks for all the replies! I think it's a combination of the wrong gear be selected (user error) because of the change in idle RPM. I think I'm just running at too low of an RPM since the engine isn't heated up. I'll post here again if this isn't actually the problem (for the sake of having an accurate archive if someone else has this question)

I tried this and it seems to work. Like the other post said, it's probably me forgetting to compensate for the change in idle speed before the engine warms up.

I completely forgot about the changed idle RPM. That completely makes sense since riding in first at these speeds until the engine warms up seems to fix the problem (so far).
