The Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint will offer the iPhone 5 when it launches later this year, becoming the third U.S. carrier to offer the iPhone. According to the report, the iPhone 5 will launch simultaneously on Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T in "mid-October".
Sprint Nextel Corp. will begin selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, people familiar with the matter said, closing a huge hole in the No. 3 U.S. carrier's lineup and giving Apple Inc. another channel for selling its popular phone.

The timing, however, indicates Apple's new iPhone will hit the market later than expected and too late to contribute to sales in the company's fiscal fourth quarter, which ends in September. Most observers had expected the device to arrive next month.
The iPhone 5 will debut on AT&T and Verizon at the same time, and Sprint is said to also be gaining the iPhone 4.

AT&T was the exclusive iPhone carrier in the United States until earlier this year, when Apple released a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 for Verizon. Sprint also operates a CDMA network.

The iPhone on Sprint has been a popular topic for rumor and speculation, especially since Verizon landed the iPhone earlier this year. Several analysts had claimed that the iPhone would be coming to Sprint by the end of this year, and an Apple job posting located near Sprint's Kansas headquarters back in May further fueled speculation that Apple was working with the carrier to launch the iPhone.

I'm on Sprint. Not sure if I want the iPhone or not though. I've been happy being able to root my android phone to allow free wireless tether and wired tether

People do that with jailbreak. It'll be interesting if sprint keeps it's full unlimited plan. They'd be the only ones to have it (unless you're in an old grandfathered contract)

... and we've had caller ID for as long as I can remember on our cell phones. Not sure what's going on down there.

New Claims of iPhone 5 Coming to T-Mobile USA

In the wake of yesterday's report that Sprint will begin offering the iPhone in the United States with the launch of the iPhone 5, apparently scheduled for "mid-October", MacTrastnow reports that T-Mobile USA will also be gaining access to the iPhone. The addition of T-Mobile, which AT&T has announced its intent to acquire, alongside Sprint would bring the iPhone to all four of the major U.S. carriers.

Following our report yesterday that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 will be arriving on the Sprint network, a contact within T-Mobile who claims to have been briefed on the matter has informed us that, in addition to arriving on Sprint at launch, the iPhone 5 will arrive on T-Mobile’s network at launch as well.

The informant, who requested to remain anonymous, went on to claim that the iPhone 5 would also operate at 3G speeds on T-Mobile US network. Current unlocked iPhone 4 units can only operate at at 2G “edge” speeds on T-Mobile’s network, and lack certain network-dependent features, such as Visual Voicemail.

T-Mobile USA claimed earlier this year to already have one million iPhones running on its network, despite the devices being limited to EDGE speeds and missing other features.

Apple and AT&T have reportedly been testing iPhone prototypes compatible with the carrier's 3G network, making a deal to bring the device to T-Mobile a realistic possibility. Research analysts and other sources have periodically claimed that T-Mobile USA will be gaining the iPhone, but rumors have been quiet in recent weeks even as other iPhone-related rumors have ramped up as the iPhone 5 launch reportedly nears.

Sprint Sales Force Told To Stay Mum on iPhone

Sprint Nextel has instructed its store employees to refrain from commenting on rumors about the arrival of Apple's next-generation iPhone for Sprint's nationwide network , according to an internal Sprint memo obtained by media outlets.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that the iPhone 5 would be coming to Sprint's network following the new model's release this autumn.

The iPhone rumor will undoubtedly reduce the carrier's short-term smartphone sales as subscribers delay their handset upgrades in anticipation of getting one of Apple's iconic handsets during this year's holiday shopping season. So the memo's "no comment" stance in preference for a clear denial does lend some credence to the Sprint iPhone rumor.

"If you are asked by a customer or just talking to friends or family members, you need to avoid making any comments about the iPhone," the internal SprintFeed memo advised. "If you are asked a direct question by a customer about Sprint getting the iPhone, you can simply say, 'Yes, I saw a few of those reports [but] I don't have any information to share.' "

The Wall Street Journal has stated that sprint will be offering an unlimited data plan for iPhone 5 buyers

Sprint blacks out dates for potential iPhone 5 launch with internal memo

Sprint may release the iPhone 5 to customers between September 30-October 15th, according to a supposed memo sent to Sprint employees yesterday.

SprintFeed reports one of their “super spies” leaked the memo to them. It reads, “Due to the possibility of a major phone launch in October we are blacking out September 30th through October 15th.”

“Black out” refers to a hold on any employee time off requests during that period of time.

Rumors that Sprint is bringing the iPhone 5 as well as the iPhone 4 to their stores have been swirling around since August. In fact, just yesterday rumors cited that Sprint would offer the coveted phone on an even more coveted unlimited data plan. Unlimited data plans have been going the way of the dinosaurs since AT&T shed theirs in June 2010 and Verizon this past July. T-Mobile still offers an unlimited data plan, but is said to slow download rates as usage increases.

AT&T was the first major carrier to sell the iPhone, Verizon received the iPhone after much anticipation in February. In this year’s third quarter, Apple sold over 20 million iPhones, to rival it’s 8.4 million sold in last year’s third quarter.

Whether the memo is real, however, remains to be seen. It’s a grainy picture, with little other than the words quoted above. Believe at your own risk, though it’s tempting to believe because it offers a solidified time range for the iPhone 5. Both Sprint and Apple have remained quiet about a possible Sprint iPhone 5 launch, as well.

Well I mean take the example at how relatively cheap the 3 and 3gs are at AT&T...

Verizon needs to step up their game and lower their prices. (I say this as I want to chuck my current phone at a brickwall and need an upgrade, :hiding:)
