Vietnam Traffic Cop Clings to Wipers as Bus Driver Speeds Off
(NewsCore) - A bus driver was arrested after he drove for more than half a mile with a traffic cop clinging to his windshield wipers in northern Vietnam.
Phung Hong Phuong, 37, was ordered to pull over by police while driving the bus in Hanoi but refused to produce his papers and ran back into his bus, VNExpress reported.
Lieutenant Nguyen Manh Phan jumped onto the front of the bus and clung on as the driver accelerated away through the traffic.
Monday's incident was captured on video camera as the cop tried to keep his footing.
Phung stopped after realizing other traffic cops and bystanders were chasing his bus.
He told police that he fled because he was afraid of being fined for encroaching on the wrong side of the road. He also confessed he was jailed for four years for fatally running over someone in the southern province of Dong Nai in 2006.
Phung could be charged with "acting against public officials," the news website said.
