A COP caused a four car pile-up after doing an emergency stop to speak to a yob — who had thrown a CHICKEN BONE.
Andrew Varciana, 22, tossed the KFC scrap at his pals on the central reservation of a busy dual carriageway.
A detective in an unmarked police car saw him and suddenly braked — sending four cars ploughing into the back of each other.
One ended up on the roof of another in the pile-up which caused thousands of pounds in damage and left three people with minor injuries.
Stunned Varciana then found himself blamed for the shunt and charged with breaching public order.
Bizarre
He admitted the rap but a judge let him go with a conditional discharge after describing the case as the most bizarre he had ever heard.
Prosecutor Anwyn Evans told JPs in Swansea how Varciana and four mates had bought a bag of cooked chicken pieces for a Sunday afternoon snack.
She said: "Varciana was on a pavement and his friends were on the central reservation of a dual carriageway.
"He threw a bone in their direction, but as he did so a police officer in an unmarked Ford Focus car used by CID was approaching."
She said the unnamed cop made an emergency stop and the cars behind braked, badly damaging four — but leaving the police vehicle unscathed.
Varciana, of Fforestfach, Swansea, admitted a breach of public order.
Defending, Ian Hopkins said: "He had no intention of causing the crash."
District Judge Vivian Manning-Davies said: "It is the most bizarre case I think I have ever come across or heard about. To say it is unusual is an understatement.
"I know this road, it's normally extremely busy.
"You should have realised if you do throw something across the carriageway you are taking the risk that someone might react or over-react.
"But it seems to me this object must have been very small.
"One view is one minor act ends up with serious consequences.
"Initially I thought I was going to impose a very hefty fine - but I don't think that's at all appropriate."
Varciana was ordered to pay £85 court costs. He declined to comment after the hearing.
