Come spring time I am probably going to be shopping for a new performance car to compliment my current civic DD. The civic is nice and gets me my 40mpg goal that I had in doing mods. Now im looking for something fun.

Ive narrowed it down to a few things but I just can't decide what's going to be the most fun. Recommendations?
Around 30k max.

BMW 135 - 300hp 6cyl turbo
370z - 322 6cyl NA
Miata w/flyin miata LS engine swap - 480hp LS3 V8 w/cam swap
Toyota ft-86 - specs?
Subaru BRZ - specs?
New Mustang 5.0 - 412hp V8 NA
others?

Im really dreaming of an old Datsun 240z but I can't decide on doing a "Ratsun" or a nice resto-mod.

240 would be nice if your looking for more of a project. 370z would be the one out of the llist you mentioned...maybe the BRZ depending on what it looks like and the specs.

An Austin Mini with a K20 would be a fun little ride, lol
 
yea, it kind of depends on if you want more of a "project" car, or something pretty much ready out of the box. Most of those look to be cars ready to go, while the 270 would be more of a wrenching car

Yeah that's where im torn. I would love to wrench on the 240 all day but I also like the idea of something new where if it breaks I can go buy a new part and not have to custom fab a part to fit. Warranty is also nice. That K-swapped mini is actually kinda cool. I had initally looked into Hako's and kenmeri gtr's, kgc110's, but I realized that even if I could get the car, a cracked windshield will run me close to 2k. Yikes!

im really leaning towards the BMW 135 or the 370.

Yes. I would really like to. I want to lean towards serious performance. Im keeping the civic for my DD.

The rear bumper looks like a stock 135 rear with a cut out in the middle and on the right side for dual pipes. Kinda stuck with the "wing" as that is the 135 trunk with a lip spoiler.
 
lol....if my post doesn't make sense is due to the fact I didn't see the pic of the white 370 at work due to the stupid filters at work.
 
Yeah the 135 is a front runner. The Miata would be a lot of fun with the LS swap but it would also take a long time to build. Im saving hard right now and it would be nice to just walk in and pick something up. Ive got a few months to decide. Going around test driving a few things here and there. Thanks for the input guys.
 
I would love an S2k but, they are too expensive!!! They are the same price used as a used BMW135. Awesome cars but people seem to think they are gold plated. At least ones that don't look beaten on, aren't highly modified, or high mileage.

I noticed used S2k's were doing around 16-18k for 30,000 miles no matter what year. Kinda high for an 02'-04' I think.
The BMW's were 18-22k for an 09-10 with less than 30k miles.

I know it's blasphemy to not consider the extreme fun factor and high reliability of the Honda. Since ive driven nothing else for the last 11 years it would be hard to change.

The caveat to all choices:

If I found an 08' S2K CR in black or white, with color matched hardtop, less than 40,000 miles, for 18-20K, after april 2012 (probable purchasing time), I would do it.
 
A 1series for 18k? I haven't priced them, but that seems pretty low

I just passed on an 09' 370z, 13k miles and it went for $24,000... it was in Des Moines. Hard to buy sight unseen. Same with s2k's. They hardly ever come up in this area. The bmw's are surprisingly available.

The guys I know are both driving Vipers now. They are crazy.
