I have a friend that went to Maui, said he went to some dinner magic show and it was one of the most amazing shows he's seen in his life, worth every penny. The guy used to perform in Vegas I guess.

I did eat at Haliimaile General Store a long time ago, but don't remember much about it. I haven't been a huge fan of Bev Gannon's although she does own a bunch of restaurants here. There are many very good restaurants here on Maui, but my and my wife's favorite restaurant is Mama's Fish House. It's pricey, but one of the few places that I think the food is worth the cost ($50+ per entree)

Any chance of bringing back some legit potent kava? I haven't had my teeth buzzing for a long time.

That's funny,that's my brothers mother in law( lol) I ate at there places for 3 weeks,I'm not what you would call a fine food reporter,but it was pretty damn good. She's really cool,she actually made me some things that we not even on the menu.i guess I'm bias because its family,but they sure spoiled me for 3 weeks. Got to golf on great courses,eat like a pig,stay at the four seasons and and the fairmont all comped,they really made me feel welcome,didnt get to hang with Alice cooper though,which bummed me out ( I missed him by 2 days). But next time I get to play kaupaloa( spelling) Joe said if I could come when he knows he will be there we will go play the course that they play the PGA on. I loved it there,I'd have to have 15 jobs but damn, I just didn't get to go to little beach enough,but the sights were great

Sounds like you had a great time. You're lucky to have well connected family here and that you got to have Bev cook for you personally. Those resorts you got comped are very nice as well. Average room rate in wailea is about $500/night. The Gannon restaurants definitely have good food, but I think most complaints i hear are that her restaurants are inconsistent, being great one day and only so-so the next. I haven't gone to her places recently enough or often enough to pass judgment myself, at least on consistency, but I'm sure if she were always doing the cooking, they'd be consistently awesome.

There are a LOT of great courses on the island, and Kapalua is definitely up there. Personally, i prefer the wailea courses to Kapalua, but i think even our cheap municipal course is as nice or nicer than a lot of courses I've seen on the mainland.

I could stop by the Maui kava bar. I think it's about $30 per half pound or $50 for a full pound.

And you probably wouldn't have to have 15 jobs. Just two full-time jobs would be enough! Nah. Honestly, if you can give up some of the creature comforts most people on the mainland are used to (having a home to yourself, central air and heat, disposable income from each paycheck, a nice new car every few years, clothes without holes, etc), you'll find it's very easy to live on Maui. Haha

Every visitor I've ever hosted thought to themselves at one point or another, "I could live here." But then we'd go to the grocery or gas station and then they'd forget about it.

Not all will agree that it is. Some move and absolutely hate it here. As for us, if it wasn't for my wife's family, we probably would never have moved away
