I should start off by stating I've got a 13 LX with the 5speed.

Recently, I've been driving the car a bit differently. I find that my shifts are much quicker and smoother if I simply push down the clutch pedal an inch or 2, shift, and release the clutch. I used to fully depress the clutch pedal to the floor on every shift, and it was always a little chuggy/jerky in lower gears.

The car seems to respond well to me barely depressing the pedal, and makes for a way smoother drive. But I can't help but feel that I may be damaging something by doing this.

Is this a safe way to operate the clutch?

I welcome any input :)

That is the perfect way to use the clutch. You only need to press it down far enough for everything to disengage. @Monk can explain in detail or point to another post he made about this.

I remember reading Monk's post about this, which made prompted me to try it. The first couple times I did it though, I could've sworn I smelt some burning clutch. That's why I was curious if it might damage something

It is possible your timing was off a bit since you were trying a new technique. Sounds like you have the hang of it now.
