Using a speed test with a VPN will give you the speed from the VPN to the testing website (and vice-versa)...not from the VPN to your computer.

Really? Let me write that down...


(I'm a computer engineer That's why I specified that it was across the VPN)

I have Blast + from Comcast and my internet speed is supposed to be up to 105MB/s, but I'm lucky to have 25 or 30MB/s at most. Anyone know what the problem is? I have USB WiFI in my desktop. Laptop has built in WiFi and the speed is the same. Wired connection would help?

How old is the modem you have? If it's a DOCSIS 2 modem, you're doing okay at 30 MB/s...You need a DOCSIS 3 modem to get higher speeds. Comcast has a nasty habit of "refreshing" their modems by wiping them off and giving them to someone else. If the modem is over 2 years old, chances are it's DOCSIS 2.

when is the last time you completely rebooted the modem? Pull the power plug, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. You might also check the modem configuration. That's probably a 2G and 5.0 G modem and if you're using the 5G output, Motorola modems have a problem with that at times.

WiFi is pretty good. I get around 120 Mbps on my hardwired desktop.

Verizon 4G LTE sucks here tho. I can go about 5 minutes away and get 40+ Mbps (down)...
