See i viewed it as if someone already got him that 3 in 1 set, he can build one of the other ones, or have two of the big one. The seem to have one thats the "big" one and then the other two just use some of the parts but not all of them, he opted for the big twin prop over the jet or hovercraft.
he was also more excited about the lego planes till he got the present from his parents, a model of the new plane his dad will be flying

That's a good point! I really want the R2-D2 set but I'm trying to grow up and get married. I won't complain if my grandparents give it to me for my birthday though LOL
