What you're looking for is mainly found in the Service Manual or online through Service Express.
The Service Manual is around $150 but isn't available yet. You can get access to Service Express for $10 for 3 days, which just might be what you're looking for.

Personally, I'd return them. You could file down the plastic, I guess with a Dremel or something, but the problem with filing them down is that what if something else doesn't fit right causing it to not fit at all? Once you've filed it down...

Helm makes all of Honda's official manuals, although the service manual is not available yet as of this writing. I've been checking weekly but nothing so far.
I had thought of that too, but there's was no way I could get my fingers in any position to get the nut threaded, so I just waited until CHH shipped me their rivet nut tool.
