I sent an email to my local dealer. Hoping to get a first look and, if the numbers work out, I may trade into it -- only because it's cheaper to go into this than put an lsd. Only problem is that I'm not sure if I want the "boy-racer" image -- I'm 26, after all.
The only image you'll project will come from how you drive.

You can always take the Si badges and the VTEC stickers off.

im pretty sure most people dont register the difference between a Si and LX/EX, at least judging by the number of elderly drivers ive seen puttering around town in 8th gen Sis

Haha so true. I came up on a black 8th gen Si only to see a 60 year old man doing 60 on the interstate. Wasting the car imo.

Cause a brand new Si screams "boy-racer" SMH

Auto-blogs / publications tend to associate the si with a boy-racer image. Also, if you were to poll people, they'd equate si's under that stereotype. I'm not turned off by it, but, like the focus st and wrx, it's not as subdued as a GTI (which is a car that I feel evokes a bit more sophistication). It's all opinion.

:sadwavey: ... you know what you're replacing it with?

Yes. The Civic I owned will be replaced next week with a new BMW 3 SportLine twin turbo diesel. Even though I like the new car I will really miss my Civic :\
The Opel Corsa ( for the ones who don't know this car - http://www.avtonaplin.si/files/foto/opel_corsa_01.jpg ) of my "wife" is to be replaced (in May I think) most likely by a 9th gen Euro Honda Civic Sport - we need to have a Honda at home!! :)

So you base your purchases or what you like, from other people's opinions?

If there was ever a time Honda was attempting to move on from the "boy racer" image, it would be with the 9th gen SI.

I know there's a thread about this, but the freaking Honda civic commercials about all things can always be better is a freaking load of crap, and up to today I was fine, I am starting to see new civics on the road, n I don't mind, but those commercials r really pissing me off... Really, good things can get better?? Don't quote me I don't know the new mantra word for word, but I'd have been more comfortable if they jus said new and slightly improved 2013 Honda civic. This crap about its still good but it can always be better stuff is annoying. End rant. f u Honda. K now I'm done.

My take too, but the 2013 is a little schizophrenic looking to me. It looks more like an accord or even a domestic sedan, very sedate, then you have that large spoiler. I'm no boy racer anymore and honestly, I would not buy the '13 because of that spoiler. And the imitation graphite on the the dash area? It reminds me of kits I see at Pep Boys. It's all good, and I know it's a popular look, but those two things are a little tip of the cap to boy racers, I think.

I don't base my decisions on their opinions. I'm saying that, like colin suggested, there are some elements that hint at the boy racer image...not to mention that the car is generally regarded as a boy-racer vehicle among enthusiasts.

The 2013 is definitely a throw back to the 2006-2011 models. The 2012 seems to have a mature styling to it that isn't at all as "racer boy" as before.
But that's never stopped me before. I'm 37 and am not the least bit concerned about the perceived image. I do wish the 2013 Si had the option of supporting a wing that was less dramatic.

Personally I like the 2013 civic. 2012 it seems .... cheap to me ... I don't know...there's "no connection" between the 2012 civic and me :)

How unhelpful of you to say that to all of the good people here who own 2012s.
One could say that personally, some whole countries seem .... cheap to me ... i don't know... there's "no connection" between the 2012 Slovenia and me :). But that would be just as unhelpful.

Well until you actually drive a 2012 or 2013, simply viewing the differences in photos will give you a limited view on the either car. I'm sure the 2013 has a nice interior and the exterior changes are appealing, but I definitely don't feel like I've I'm driving a sub-par car.
In the end, the styling differences both inside and out are going to appeal to different audiences. I still think the 2013 looks fantastic, but I certainly don't care for the faux carbon fiber and the tall wing.
To each his own of course.
