So I would have to buy the camber kit for the wider wheels?

Like Webby said depends how low and how wide...

I am lowered roughly 1.5 inches and run a 17x8 wheel and everything dealing with my camber and alignment is stock...

But like I said the lower and wider you go, the other problem is becoming a stancebro....

17×8.5? Too much?

17x8 or 8.5 shouldn't give you too much trouble at all with a 1.5" drop. Just be careful with the offset. The +xx that you see on the wheel sizes is the offset number. Stock is +45 and lots of people run in the +35 range. I think if you go lower than +35 you will start to run into issues. Try to keep it between +45 and +35 you should be good to go.
