I like around 4k. The sweet thing about this ride is that I can drive in a "spirited" fashion without draining my tank completely. I would get around 16-17 mpg in my STI when I was TRYING to preserve gas. 
. That is definitely not the car to have if gas mileage is important to you. I did a fun run with a couple people around the base and averaged 9 mpg with my STI... Doh! The SI is still fun, quick, and good on the family guy pocket book.
