Radar/Laser Detector Shopping Guide...?

Radarbusters.com is the site i went to with the major brands. They also usually had some kind of deal going on when i was shopping around on their site

Thanks guys, my 6 year old Bel just died so I'm looking for a nice replacement to hard-wire next to the rear view mirror. I'm assuming I'll still tap into the green power wire connected to the map light housing so I don't have to run it all the way down to the fuse box.

I'm glad it wasn't a pet that died....... As I'm not so inlightned , what is a Bel ?

dont wanna turn this into a vs thread but has anyone found anything better than the valentine1 within the same class/price range

I've used a V1 and currently have a 9500ix. I miss the arrows greatly but in overall performance I find them to be somewhat similar. Plus the red light/speed camera database is nice, I have them all over around where I live and it's nice to know which are traffic cams and which aren't. (And get an alert) If V1 would update their unit a bit I feel like they would win unopposed. They update the software, but the unit itself has mostly remained the same for years and years, while it works a major update would be awesome.

I just bought a passport 9500ix,got it hard wired, and a mirror mount ,the GPS feature is great and the red light camera feature really works,it was expensive but so is a ticket.

Not to highjack the thread, but could you PM or link in here the mirror mount/hard wire explanation. I thought I read some were having trouble finding a good lead for it from the Map lights.

I got my mirror mount and hard wire on fleebay wire was 6.99 shipped and mount was 34.99 shipped, mount is very well made/ tons if adjustments and black fits perfect.

Good info. I'm in the market for a new one since our old Cobra died. My brother got the Escort Redline, like you mentioned, basically the newest passport model. Due to price I'm looking on eBay for used Passport 8500 X50 model, Bel Pro 500 or even the new Whistler XTR-695SE. Trying to spend between $100-$150.

There are so many damn red light cams in Atlanta I had to get the 9500 ix, now I see many more since I got it, man it's expensive though, but I'm glad I got it.

Escort Redline...With The New Firmware (Expert)
I have tested dozens
The Redline beats them all hands down (only thing close is the V1 (newest version) but that is detectable
And the new MAXX is BLAH!

Betronics and escort are the same thing. The beltronic just has more features. Open them up and same exact on the inside. I wired mine with a regular telephone cord since mine is powered with a r11 jack. I just ran it through the head liner down the front drivers side pillar and into the weather stripping back to the fuse panel . It took less then 5 minutes to run the wire and just tapped into fuse panel.

Beltronics and Escort are the same company...But their equipment has many differences...Beltronics does not have the new expert firmware on a windshield mount...They have it on the STIR PLUS...Beltronics have more detector models...But not options or features...I have owned almost every Bel and Escort model and did lots of testing and the REDLINE came out on top almost every time...

How well do these detectors actually work? Every time, most of the time?????
A lot of it has to do with your driving. They pick up a lot even automatic door openers. you can adjust most of the newer models to cancel out certain bands for different applications. I live in Virginia where they are outlawed and I still use one. Doing 3rd gear WOT pulls is sketchy with out one.
