Why is this the first question every new Civic owner asks?

I've owned a bunch of cars and I never change anything until I've had enough experience with the car to know exactly (more or less) what needs to be changed or modified. Why is the first question a newbie Civic owner ask always, "What do I mod first?" Doesn't anyone drive the car stock for a while to find out what the car can do in stock form?

And if this is really what new owners want to know, why not just buy a more powerful car to start with and save some money? How many people have things for sale that they tried as a mod for their car that didn't work out?

because for 3-4k more than the cost of the civic... you can't find many cars that can do 300+hp to the wheels. A lot of people buy civics purely to modify, because the aftermarket world has been historically strong.
 
Yes and you will pay 4x the insurance for a higher hp car. I've gotten quotes on evos. Like webby says for 4 k more it can't be touched. And you still pay low car insurance! !!
 
Becauseracecar :) lol, on a serious note, people want to personalize whats theirs. This isnt only civics or cars in general. Its the same thing when people buy other things like, computers, phones, housing, etc. Its only natural to say that its theirs.

people also modify guitars to give it a more personal tone/sound,

people also modify guns/ar15 for reasons i don't understand

home improvement is also consider "modify"
 
So what everyone is basically saying is that they're not satisfied with the car? I understand the personalization thing, don't forget, you're an individual just like everyone else. :)

Well, I did wait until I had almost 100 miles on my car before I changed the exhaust and the wheels.

Isnt the while point of this forum? To ask for opinions so other people advise you as to not make the same mistakes they did. It took me alot os reading and asking before i pulled the trigget on my mods because i didnt want to have buyers remorse on my mods and im very happy with what i got

just small mods make a difference, not completely unsatisfied but after a while of owning a car it starts too become kind of the same old (not saying this about all cars). For me id want an exhaust mostly because it sounds nice and more along the way. I think of my car as a canvas and if anything can be added to make it look and drive better why not?
 
Because it's not as easy as you think it would be financing things. If I could afford the monthly on a camaro, charger, or mustang I wouldn't have a civic lol. That said I can modify my civic to be as fast and still come out ahead.

Well, you probably could finance a Mustang but then you'd have a Mustang. Boy, that's exciting (unless you get a Shelby or GT 500). Same thing as buying a Civic, you're just slightly ahead when it comes to HP (and the thing won't go around a corner very well but it is RWD which is a bonus).
 
When I went around test driving cars, I told myself that I could either afford a WRX and not do too much to it, or an Si and have the money to do a lot to it.
 
I got the si because at car meets, I was always jealous of everything the car offered when I would see them. With affordability thrown in and it holds value, I figured it was a no brainer at the price the fb6 came at. Then I got on here because I had never owned one, to see what typically people with this specific car should mod first to improve the drivability. Since I had no clue where to go with it.
 
Great answers! Amazing the number of people who have bought this car for the potential that it has (okay, I admit it, I did as well).
