Hi everyone! my name is Freddy. I recently purchased a 2014 civic ex for my girlfriend and i. I'm here to learn, research, and hopefully teach what I learn from everyone here. I've had several cars before. 1987 and 1988 Acura Integra, 2003 civic si and a 2006 wrx. Currently I own an scion frs and a 2014 civic ex. I live in Montana and I work fixing small paint problems on cars. I'm also part of the Montana Army National Guard. Hope to be of some help to anyone here.

And now my question and problem. I recently researched and finally bought springs and wheels and now I'm freaking out on the wheel size and offset. I bought megan springs which drop 1.5 front and rear and the wheels are avid1 Av06 17x8 +42. I'm worried that they will rub on the strut. The tires I have are 225/45/17 and I'm sure those will now. Any responses will be appreciated

You'll be fine. That is a mild drop and that offset is less than stock.
 
Nix is the wheel guru around here.
 
Ya, I was reading that and thinking 17 x 7 can have basically any offset you want and you're okay. 17 x 9 is a whole different story.

Welcome by the way. Great to gave a paint specialist around. :)
 
I figured it out just some 8mm spacers and 215/40 and fender rolling but I already have bought a set of tires :/ I'll just have to see about sending them back for a return and get some 17x8 with 35 offset.
 
So no return option lol now I need to know if the will rub the strut :(
 
You shouldn't hit the strut on a 17x9 +42. The +45 gets close and you may need to run a spacer with those but effectively a +45 offset and a 3mm would put you at the same +42. If you haven't already returned them I think you would be fine on both the suspension side and the fender side. Pick up a set of 3mm spacers and you most likely will only need them in the front. Rears should be good.

If you are going to run 8mm spacers you will need to get extended studs. 3mm is the limit for spacers on the stock studs. Getting extended studs pressed into the front is no easy matter. You can possibly trim the dust shield on the brake and carefully slip one at a time out the back of the hub and then slide hammer the new ones in. If you remove the hub you most likely will have to get a new wheel bearing pressed in as well, and that costs a little bit.

The 225/45 shouldn't be a huge issue. Some of the guys running the RPF1 in a 17x9 +35 only dropped to a 215 width and said they barely rubbed. I think the higher offset and slightly wider tire should give you enough room that you may not even have to touch the fenders.
