I wonder if he is going at traffic speed or way below the limit, annoying everyone behind him.:shady:

Does he draft behind semi trucks???

While this is far to short a distance for a true calibration drive, I bounced the back end of the car 4 times between each possible top offs until it would hold no more. The 89.6 mpgUS result was astounding and it all has to do with a fantastic 5-speed stick that is the slickest shifting MT in the business. Ratios are far to short for decent steady state but this thing takes off when going advanced and using a double rhythm P&G method. I will describe this in detail at a future point.

I wonder what the driving method actually is and why does filling up gas to the top of the filler neck matter?

His tire pressure is probably very high.
I think he mentioned that he keeps the tires inflated to 51 psi. I keep mine at 35 psi, I don't want to risk losing traction on the road.

"pg"- probably referring to pulse and glide. You're basically going over your intended speed by like 5mph or so, followed by coasting till you're 5 or so under the speed, followed by pulsing back up to 5 over...then back to coast. Doing that instead of keeping the gas at a steady 70mph or whatever has proven to yield much higher gas figures.

Double rhythm p&g- not sure but it's surely a variation of the above.

4.56 a gallon? where? It's 4.70 here.

the same principal applies. Once you're in a cruising gear, you'd be doing the pulse and glide. If you're in constant stop and go traffic, or shifting a ton, it's not going to work. You need stretches of ground to clear. The longer the distance between having to stop at a light the better your results will be.

Mythbusters proved that even 100ft or so behind a semi yielded something ridiculous like a 40% reduction in drag. You don't even have to try and tailgate, just stay 5 car lengths back or so.

Thats kinda dangerous, it not only increases the chances of rear end collision but also creates disturbance in the air-flow. I was behind the semi the other day and I could literally feel my car shaking.
