2013 Acura Spied - RSX TSX?

First Photos! 2014 Acura RSX Sedan!?

We just spied the newest Acura: An upscale sedan riding on the Civic platform and due to arrive for the 2014 model year!

RSX? That's right! Sources are speculating that the TSX will be discontinued after the 2013 model year and the slot in the lineup will be replaced with the familiar RSX name.

The sedan, as shown here in pre-production prototype form, will arrive in the first half of 2013, with a coupe and possible convertible to follow a year later.

Although riding on the Civic platform, this is no rebadged Honda. The RSX will be larger than its Civic cousin and, therefore, have unique styling and sheetmetal.

Just a quick note, but given the finished, "production-ready" look of this test car, and based up on what we have heard all along, I'm still thinking this "Sub-TSX" car will go on sale in 2012 as a '13 model. Also, I'm not sure this car will be badged as the RSX yet.

I'm feeling kind of meh about this one too. It's too bad, I can always hope that they'll shock everyone and put a legit engine in this. I just can't help but thinking that in typical -modern- Honda fashion, this will just have a carryover engine...blah.

It looks like a mid-sized sedan. It's more possible to be a TSX.

It's been a long day. I had classes since 9am and I just finished 30min ago. Lol.

Considering the TSX has been Acura's best selling car for the last few years, I can't see them killing it. "Sources" have been wrong many, many, many times.

I'm getting a weird 1 Series vibe from the side profile shot.

suggesting there will be a 4dr and 2dr rsx coming to the US in 2013, and this being the 4dr version

=======

year to date for 2011

TL - 20,373
TSX - 18,609
RL - 936
MDX - 28,759
ZDX - 1133
RDX - 9326

I'm not suggesting the tsx is going to be killed next year, but if priddy is coming straight out saying this is what is happening.... they must have some inside info to suggest it. Granted, anything can happen in the next year or two.

cnet even had an article about it earlier last month

TSX: There is talk within Acura that the TSX will go away after its cycle ends in 2013. Four low-volume sedans that are close in size may not be a healthy business plan.

Ok so I guess the TL finally picked up some steam in the last year or so. The TSX was killing it there for a while. Either way, I don't see how it's a good business move to kill off a car that's accounting for 25% of your sales.

Kill the RL...lol, no one will miss it. I agree that having 4 low volume sedans may not be a healthy business plan, so make a coupe only. DING!

I actually like the looks and the performance of the 2nd gen RLs.

Acura preparing Civic-based RSX sedan?

The Civic has long been a big volume model for Honda. But while it has grown in size and standards of accommodation over the years, Canadian buyers are the only ones in the world who can get their hands on an Acura version.

Called the CSX, it's essentially a rebadged Civic with some extra luxury touches. It was preceded by the EL, also based on the Civic, which in turn took the place in Acura Canada's lineup left vacant by the departure of the Integra sedan in 1996. Rumors, however, have been circulating for the past year that Acura was developing a new Civic-based model earmarked towards a broader market – including the United States.

We've heard this line of thinking out of the rumormill before, but it's been a while, and this is the first time we've heard talk of it reviving the RSX badge. The RSX, as you may recall, succeeded the Integra, albeit in coupe form only, and it was a favorite among front-wheel drive performance guys and gals. Whether a new RSX sedan might prove a worthy successor – or for that matter, whether a two- or three-door version might be offered as well – remain to be seen, but word on the street is that we can expect it to arrive in 2013 as a 2014 model.

Why you would bring back the RSX with a four-door option is beyond me; Acura already has a compact sedan: the TSX. Instead of bringing back the RSX, and wasting money on adding a new model to Acura's lineup, why don't they offer a two-door variant of the TSX?
