thats good to hear, looks like their crappy move or mistake from the 2015 was fixed in

Is the passcode on the USB specific to a VIN#?
Can 2 people "share" a USB update. Ie., split cost and get one for both?
 
If it was tied to the VIN#, then you wouldn't have eventually been able to obtain one from them that actually worked. You said they had tried a few codes, until they got it right.
Maybe like you suggest, they have some "master" codes that may work with a batch of USB sticks?
I'm just guessing at their method....
