On February 14, 2014, the Hennessey Venom GT set a new world speed record for 2-seat sports cars by reaching a top speed of 270.49 mph (435.31 km/h). The test was performed at the Kennedy Space Center on the 3.2-mile Space Shuttle landing runway. Brian Smith, Director of Miller Motorsports Park, drove the Venom GT to its record speed. A representative from Racelogic, world-renowned maker of VBox GPS data-acquisition systems, was on hand to independently verify and document the Venom GT's highest recorded speed.

Unfortunately, not elligible for a Guiness record.

But IMHO, who cares? Anything over 180mph is fast, to *me*.

Yeah anything over 180 is fast and too fast to use in a street, but 270 is a great feat of engineering. That won't affect us for a while but that engineering gets passed down to hyper cars and eventually passenger cars.

That's like saying I won't go to space so why would we have a space program?

i don't think it will be long before we see a car hit 280

I wonder what the limiting factor was.. Most likely runway space haha or gearing being that its only a 6 speed.

270.49 mph is ******* crazy fast!

I would be like :omg: :omg: :omg:

:giggle:

It didn't do a run in both directions, with average speed calculated between both runs. (A requirement for Guiness record entries.)
I thought it wasnt eligible because that record is for production cars. Hennessey has to make at least 30 of them to classify it as production and only plans on making 29 from what I read. Land speed records for non production cars are much higher than 270 mph.
