Hey all, this guy at my work has been persistent about racing me. I am not the kind to usually care but he asked me again today for about the 9th time. And everyone here says they think the charger is faster. So here is my question to you all, with my current mods, do you think it would be a close race? Charger comes in weighing a staggering 4400 pounds, but packs a 3.6L v6 and is automatic with something like 3xx horsepower (I couldnt find an exact number anywhere).....obviously this would be done at a track etc but I dont want to race something I know very little about! Thanks for the input if you have any

I think it would be pretty close depending on the mods each of you have. I assume he has the SE or SXT based on the V6. Even then, with some modes and a good tune, it could be close with an RT with a good driver and good tires.

2005 Dodge Charger R/T 0-60 mph 5.5 Quarter mile 14.0
2008 Dodge Charger R/T 0-60 mph 5.6 Quarter mile 14.1

2011 Dodge Charger SE 0-60 mph 6.4 (Est.)

2011 Dodge Charger R/T 0-60 mph 5.2 Quarter Mile 13.7

2011 Dodge Charger Rallye Plus 0-60 mph 7.2 Quarter Mile 15.4

2013 Dodge Charger SXT 0-60 mph 6.5 Quarter Mile 14.9

2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe 0-60 mph 6.4 Quarter Mile 14.7

2012 Honda Civic Si Sedan 0-60 mph 6.0 Quarter Mile 14.5

2011 v8 charger
At the track the R/T rips off the dash to 60 mph from a standstill in 5.4 seconds and dispenses with the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 102.8 mph.

have you run at the track to know your times?

He has no mods at all. I have not run at the track, for time yet, because vit has not fully finished my tune yet. But I am assuming that it would be really close no? Only one way to find out I guess.....

I think it's going to depend a lot on how good either of you are at launching and shifting at just the right time. Definitely do it at the local drag strip. That way its safe, and you both get real times to prove who won!

Well I raced a camaro ss he was stock and I was stock and he walked all over me lol. But u have full boltons and a tune and he's stock. Does he just has the 5.7L V8 or the 6.1 V8?

The SS runs a 12.5 to 13.0 1/4 mile. That is a huge difference whereas the difference between an Si (stock) and a Charger isn't as drastic.

If you have full bolt on mods and a tune you will eat him alive, assuming he is completely stock and automatic. And of course racing him from about a 30 or 40 roll, from the dig is a pointless race, you'll spin for days unless you know how to properly launch. I have a fully stock SI and I raced my friends Genesis when he was stage 2 at about 280HP to the wheels and I kept up with him all through 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear.

Uhm I dont know what litre V8 it is, all I know is it weighs something like 4500 pounds haha so surely thats some sort of an advantage...I believe the SI is something like 2900 curb weight

And yeah that was my thinking, so I am pretty sure I can. But I do know how to properly launch if need be. Plus yes, it is an automatic as well

I used to own a Charger SXT. If it has the 3.5 you'd be more than capable of beating him. That car was so big and heavy the 3.5 is almost underpowered.

The newer SXTs have the 3.6 with an extra 40 or so HP. It would make it close I think.

If it is the R/T it will have the 5.7 and I think you'd be in tough but with your mods it would be close. Getting your times would be a good start.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I honestly think if you race from a roll you'll beat him no doubt just due to the fact we have, crazy aggressive gearing and VTEC!! LOL just kidding but I definitely think the automatic trans plus the weight of the car gives you a real nice advantage. If you race from the dig he has an advantage just because he has that RWD and doesn't really have to do much but mash the gas down to the floor.

Looks like from about a 30 roll will give me the best shot, agreed that from a stop it would be extremely tough.

Race it! Not relevant to the topic, is the Si coupe really slower than the Si sedan? @squiggy

Comes down to weather/track conditions and the driver. .2 seconds is well within the margin of error for a single person. I have seen professional reviewers with times upwards of 15.4.
