Hey guys I need to change my inner cv boots on both sides and was curious if anyone has tried this on there car and if they have a DIY or reference on how to change it. I want to take it to a family mechanic free of charge but I want to try an tackle it myself, if anyone has some insight on how to do this would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

what is your mechanical skill level?

it is simple for someone in the know but not an easy job for someone who has only done oil changes.

if someone I knew was able to do this job and it was free I would bring it to them simply because it isn't any sort of fun.

It's much harder than changing your suspension or installing a supercharger. Lol.

Sounds pretty rough. I think I'll just take it to my uncle. I figure if it was something easy than it'd be worth the try.
Thanks guys

Yeah inner cv boot on both side tore guessing from bad suspension and being lowered. Car was bouncing a lot. Lets just say I learn my lesson and won't be dropping it any time soon :(

what's your suspension setup?

Boots aren't that hard to replace. Take off the big nut on the end of the axle. Undo the tie rod, lower ball joint, strut rod and struts bolts. Pop the axle out and take off old boot with a set of side cutters (dykes). Install new boot packed with grease and reverse the above........ Orrr buy the speedi boot. Its a boot that's cut down 1 side that you put over and bolt on. Then clamp the ends.

It shouldn't be to hard as the Civic has a MacPherson Strut Front Suspension. It really is this easy. If you were closer, I would show you how.

Ohh and you can go on youtube and watch this stuff being done.
Thanks bro!! When I was installing my stock suspension back in I was looking at how u change it and it didn't look that hard. Ill be trying it for sure just so I can teach myself more about fixing cars. I know a little about working on cars but I have my dads help as well since he's helped me and taught me pretty much everything I know about cars.

Would the speedi boot be better? Or does it cost more that's why it's so easy?

if you don't have air tools, that axle nut is gonna be hard to get on and off. i think tq specs on it are around 350 lb-ft

Once reason why installing a supercharger is easier. Lol. Breaker bars won't even do much on those bolts.

Even if you have a good impact gun, good luck. I use a breaker bar and a 3 foot pipe. I have broken sockets before so be prepared. May be able to get a loaner from autozone. And I got into working on cars because of my dad and not trusting shops. I was 12 helping swap a full time 4wd jeep over to part time and swapping out the front axle on his CJ7, back when Jeeps were JEEPS. Now I am teaching my twin 14 year old Daughters how to work on cars and the 6 year old girl wants to help. Teach em young and you will have a hobby that keeps on going. I have a pic of me when I was in a cloth diaper (remember those? That's how long ago that was) under a car with my dad handing him tools.
