Fender bender paint question

I wonder if it would be possible to polish most of the scuff marks out on mine. ???
I would recommend ScratchWizard's kit... I got the one for my car and it's a very good match if you don't want to spend the money on the Honda paint. That's what I did but now all my chips will be gone thanks to the bumper being redone.

Also, here's my estimate:

@323 has some experience with paint shops. Maybe he can review that to compare

i'm glad you tagged me @webby

@JakeDBP I can see they're really trying to make money, charging you for a bunch of nice, but unnecessary services.

1. an alignment (just from taking off a wheel) - not needed
2. blending the back bumper which is technically the way you're supposed to do it, but blending that back bumper is costing you 5 hours of labor and materials - not needed
3. they're using an outside service to repair/refinish the wheel which is more expensive, and can be done on your own for much cheaper if you just follow a diy on refinishing your wheels.

so to break down the estimate:
$250 for paint and materials (not including bumper paint because again, the bumper doesn't need to be painted) - paint is expensive and any body shop will charge this much
$750 labor to repair/paint necessary panels - they're charging $48 an hour which is average

total - $1000
after deductible - $750

the other $550 is labor and paint for the bumper, the refinish on the wheel, the alignment, and a crazy $34 just to take off and put back on your taillight.

remember, an estimate is just an estimate. you can pick and choose the things you want done to your car.
they might pressure you by saying you need other things done (like the back bumper blend) but being as it's a new car, you wont need to blend because the paint hasn't faded yet.

Whoa, okay thanks. The alignment was because the other car actually hit my side and scraped along my wheel and the steering is off a little to the right now. I think that's fine to keep, right?

Also what does blending back bumper mean? It's scratched up on the left side of the bumper so I thought blending just mean to repaint the area and make it match with the back and other side. The thing I'm worried about is that they're taking off the window and the door handle and repainting all the way up the back pillar... that seems like a lot but I have no experience in auto body so it's nice to hear from someone who does! I appreciate your help big time :corona:

ah ok, sorry, I didn't see your bumper was hit too, maybe I didn't look at the pictures clear enough.
so yea, the bumper would have to be painted, and the rest too.

blending is done to make sure all the paint matches.
for instance, if your driver door was hit, and you just painted the driver door, then it wouldn't match with the fender and back door, or the rocker panels.
this is because your whole car was painted at once in the factory, and then it's been sitting in the sun and rain and other elements that might fade the paint just a bit over time.
now you go and repaint just one area of the car with fresh paint, and it looks different from the rest of the car because it hasn't been faded the same way.
so to blend your driver door, they would paint the fender, back door, and rocker panels, so that it's much harder to see the difference in the paint along the whole car.

I went to Honda today. They would charge me $400 to repair that. Option B is for me to use paint pen and build it up, then clear coat. Bring it back to Honda and they will polish it. Won't be perfect, but 80% will be gone and the rest won't be too noticeable. Will only cost $55. What do you guys think?

Well just got my car back and she's looking pretty good! Only thing that bugs me is that it smells like chemicals from the work... It seems to be diminishing though. Here ya go!

I haven't fixed mine. I don't even see it anymore. Once I clay barred it and waxed, it was covered up for the most part. She's no garage princess.

The paint smell will be pretty much gone in about a week. That's normal. Looks like they did a great job.

Definitely did. I only found 1 problem which they fixed right away, and there are two other little annoyances, the most obvious is the refinished wheel has a grittier paint coating than the other wheels.

I'm taking my girlfriend there before her lease is up to get her car all fixed up so Ford doesn't kill her on repairs! Any Pittsburghers out there who need repairs, these guys are very good.

This car is a curse :( got T-boned today on my way to the Penguins playoff game. VW Touareg ran a stop sign and smashed me. Estimate to come soon... For now, LETS GO PENS!!

Wow. That sucks. Hopefully no one was hurt.

At least the Pens just tied it up for your sake.

And the Pens win! Now I'll play the waiting game with my car
