Yeah, A/C is out and the temp is climbing so I can't sleep, so I shall post.

This morning I woke up and noticed that it was a tad bit warmer than usual. Didn't think much of it until I went outside for a bit and the outside temp was about the same as the inside temp. I put my hand to one of the vents and it was blowing warm air. Fuuuuuuuuuu!!! Few minutes later it goes back to cold and think "oh damn, not now" Go to work and come home to a nice cool house. Go to the gym and then walk in to something that is a bit warm. :pat: Go look at the outside unit and the fan is not spinning. :pat: X2 So I call one of the 100 million A/C guys in the Charlotte area and they are coming out the next day at 2pm! Fuuuuuuuuuu!!! X2.

So I am here typing away when I should be sleeping but I can't because I am uncomfortable.

:sheep:

ooo that sucks. The unit at my parents house broke the other day and it was 89F in the house. Not pleasant. Thankfully, I didn't have to stay in it long..lol
I hope they fix it for you soon

If it takes too long, maybe someone you know has an extra window unit you can borrow for a short time. If you were near me, I would lend you one.

I hope you can be cool again soon.

Retreat to a basement! (or Ken's bunker). Hopefully it's an easy fix, and not the whole unit

The contactor and the fan motor are bad. To fix it and clean out the unit it is $900. had a guy from the same company come out to tell me a new unit would be $6770. That was a special price too.

After some searching and suggestion from friends I have found the parts to fix both on my own for roughly $250 (internet price) but no parts stores are open on the weekends. So I will have to wait till Monday to go see about getting parts. Maybe, just maybe I might be able to get parts from a friends brother and get a special price on the parts.

The fishys are getting warm also and no one I could borrow a window unit from. There are some small ones at Home Depot for $100 so I might have to bite the bullet and buy one so my roommates fish don't die. I could also get on the comp since the fishes and the comps are in the same room.

lol...sorry about the random text....

Here is one of the parts I have to fix....

Way too much for a new unit man. I know someone who just got a quote for a 1400sq ft house - $2700 installed with removal of the old broken unit. I found similar pricing on other forums for similar size units. Hopefully you can get the parts needed cheap, and get cooled off quick

Yeah, seemed really high to me also. My dad was saying a while back that a new one would be $3000 or less. Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow morning.

Forgot to mention earlier that my roommate bought a smallish window unit. It has been running non-stop since 1pm, lol. Atleast it keeps one room cool.

Way too much. When we had our central heat and air unit put in with furnace in the attic, all duct lines, vents, return, and labor it was around $4500

Just watch the window unit so it doesn't freeze up on you. If it's run endlessly, the unit can form ice or frost and essentially stop working. Then you've got to shut it off and let it thaw before turning it on again.

I turned it off at night. Just water for now.

I bought parts, made an attempt and then called a guy, lol. Guy came out and fixed it and then 10 mins late the fan stop spinning. Guy is on his way back.

:pat:

Came back and said he needs a new motor....20 mins later he calls and can't get a new motor till the morning. F this.....

I saw the wiring and is simple so I might risk using the motor I bought and see how it goes. Problem is I have to cut a few screws out of the motor to get it to fit the space so I won't be able to return it. Fun Fun....

Will you be able to mount the motor securely if you cut those screws out? Sorry you're having issues man
