HID low beams and DRL?

Hello I'm new. Thinking about putting a 4300k Philips HID kit in my new 2014 civic ex-l. Will I need to disable my DRLs? Also, can I install this without taking off my bumper as I've seen in youtube videos? Also, will this make light go everywhere to blind oncoming cars without modifying the headlights? Will it damage the electrical stuff in the long term?

First off, welcome to the forum!

The DRLs run off the high beams not the low beams so there should be no issues there.

You could probably do it without taking the bumper off but it depends on how much hassle and difficulty you want in doing it. The bumper really does come off easy. I'll try and find you the video in a minute, I know there is one on here.

Yes, you will blind oncoming cars. The reflector bowl cannot adequately handle the HID beam. You will get a lot of glare. People may not like you. That part is up to you though.

If you install a quality kit and use the proper wiring harness and ballasts nothing should get damaged. A good wiring harness with proper relays will handle the power needs of the HID system without putting strain on the stock wiring. It is safe and works better than just plugging straight into the stock system. The right harness will have the correct connections for you so that you plug into the stock connectors, maintain stock controls, and the power will be fed directly from the battery.

Hey thanks for the quick reply! A video would help. I'm unsure if anything drastic changes from the 2013 civic compared to the 2014 civic. I've read on the forums the civic beams the light lower than other compact cars and that the newer civic headlights face more downward. Is this true?

Wiring Harness info: If the kit you buy doesn't come with it, this is the harness you need.

Also @ethlar is very very knowledgeable about this stuff.

Without the harness you run the risk of flickering and burning out components of the system.

I am unsure of the aiming of the lights from the factory but on the 8th gen civic you could adjust the angle with a set screw on the back of the headlight housings. It might be there on the 9th gen but I am not 100% sure.
 
@Nix covered everything, i just would want to stress how much safer it is to run at least a wire harness and preferably getting projectors as well.

Okay so I made an order for the Philips 4300k HIDs with model 9006 for my low beams, good to know there is a 3 year warranty on these HID kits. I'm new to this car modification thing so please bear with me. Where is an ideal place to place the ballasts in a 2014 civic sedan if I don't end up removing the bumper? Are they any different than the placements recommended for a 2013 model?
 
I would remove the bumper to give yourself an easier time with everything. Some users have pulled back the black plastic wheel liner to push a ballast up into that area behind the lights. It's up to you.

Ideally anywhere behind the bumper that water isn't going to get into regularly. Taking the bumper off just gets you better access to some of those more protected areas. Check through some of the install threads and watch in the install vid I posted you above and see if you can reach some of those areas just by bending the liner like webby said
 
Alright guys, the HID lights from Xenondepot was installed and they were put in the stock housing. BOY are they great! I love it. I got the 4300k Philips and they're as bright as my 2013 BMW 335i's lights. I also decided to take this to a car audio shop to get it professionally installed since they install HIDs and I just didn't want to take a chance on breaking something since I'm not too familiar with this stuff. I love them and had no one flashing me, the level of lighting seems to be right as well and I don't have that big glare that I usually see installed in SUVs and Trucks. These lights in the new civic seems to point down anyway. Having a 3 year warranty with the HID kits from Xenondepot is a great peace of mind. Great stuff! Now I got these HIDs and 10" rockford fosgate amplified subs and I feel like I'm in high school again, but with a nicer and of course new car. Thanks 9thcivic!
