Honda Approves Next Civic Type R

ty i agree
if the people want a turbo civic then honda should leave it to them

i just feel dat the $ and the numbers dont add up right
for dat kind of $ id would probaly just do an evo for like 5k more and have the privalidge of the awd for the winters:driving:

A turbo Type R will likely cost 26-27 because it will be a direct competitor to the GTI. Why would they overprice themselves?

On the VW turbo 1.8s and 2.0s, APR chips produce outstanding numbers, in the neighborhood of 50-60hp and torque. From JUST a reflash and $500. It is not out of the ordinary to expect hondata to have a chip/reflash that would produce similar gains.

have you tried optioning out an evo or an sti? they come close to 40k. Plus honda doesn't have to worry about ring lands and stuff like that...remember, a lot of people buy into this brand because of its reputation for reliability.

how is dat when an si fully loaded with navi and voice recognition is 26.5 ?????
then they would be low ballin themselfs

RDX reflash before and after -- remember this is an awd suv, so the motor was designed for torque delivery...nonetheless, the results are pretty nice

yeah dats very tru dats why i went with honda cause of the reiliability and 31 mpg for an si aint bad either
evo"s are tempermental and need tender loving care and sti's are to much $$$

How much is a base SI? Add to that 18" wheels, a body kit, and a turbo. A Type R isnt gonna come with navi. It's meant to be a stripped down track car. USDM ITRs didnt even come with air conditioning, and that was in 2001. A fully loaded GTI comes in around 29. So I wouldn't expect a type R to be more expensive than that.

Almost 300 ft/lbs with Honda reliability. Can't beat that with a baseball bat

lol, so why do you guys think this car is going to be so expensive?

The Mugen not selling is not a feasible gauge of a type-r civic's potential success! As someone mentioned, the Mugen was a flop because it offered very little benefit for such an insane price increase. Like why would I pay close to 7k over a standard si for a body kit, intake, and exhaust. Mugen body kits are always expensive because they are wind tunnel tested, the type-r wouldn't have to go through the sort of R&D and on such a small economies of scale, especially if the type-r platform was international.

I see all of these things as the problem to drive up the cost of the car. The Mugen flopped in sale because the enthusiast didn't see a "real" gain over the regular Si. The Type R, IMO, would have the same price bump similar to the Mugen because of the body mods then add a little more money for the power it gains and the fact that it is a Type R. Then there is all the costs associated with bringing a new platform/car over to the states. All the crash testing and modifing the car to comply have costs and those cost have to go somewhere.

Enthusiast will see the same as they did with the Mugen, bigger price tag with minimal power gains. You will get an exclusive car with flashy aero bits but most enthusiast will want power over exclusivity.

9thgizzy, for the most part I agree with you, the si is fine the way it is, and 210 is barely an improvement...but if they keep the price right, and if the car is enough of an enthusiast package, then it will be hard for consumers to say no to it.

one more thing, a fully optioned gti (which gives you all of the features you get in an si) is 29k so the type r at 29 is perfectly feasible.

lol. um the aero bits on the mugen are 4+k...the type r would barely get anything that involved, look at what comprised previous iterations of the euro type r....those parts were like hfp bits (particularly in the way of pricing)

Still, it will come at a premium just because it's a Type R part/car. Then they might even do that stupid BS like the Mugen of needing a Mugen VIN to get the "special" parts. Complete fail IMO and Honda/Mugen wanting to keep it special/exclusive. All I see is loosing money.

Yeah sound like more trouble to me then wat its worth lol

granted the pics were from a rendering in oct 2011. I'm sure it'll closely resemble that though.

That was the old Civic. You can see the pics of the new TypeR on the link I posted on my previous post :)
