A turbo Type R will likely cost 26-27 because it will be a direct competitor to the GTI. Why would they overprice themselves?
On the VW turbo 1.8s and 2.0s, APR chips produce outstanding numbers, in the neighborhood of 50-60hp and torque. From JUST a reflash and $500. It is not out of the ordinary to expect hondata to have a chip/reflash that would produce similar gains.
how is dat when an si fully loaded with navi and voice recognition is 26.5 ?????
then they would be low ballin themselfs
yeah dats very tru dats why i went with honda cause of the reiliability and 31 mpg for an si aint bad eitherhave you tried optioning out an evo or an sti? they come close to 40k. Plus honda doesn't have to worry about ring lands and stuff like that...remember, a lot of people buy into this brand because of its reputation for reliability.
How much is a base SI? Add to that 18" wheels, a body kit, and a turbo. A Type R isnt gonna come with navi. It's meant to be a stripped down track car. USDM ITRs didnt even come with air conditioning, and that was in 2001. A fully loaded GTI comes in around 29. So I wouldn't expect a type R to be more expensive than that.how is dat when an si fully loaded with navi and voice recognition is 26.5 ?????

Almost 300 ft/lbs with Honda reliability. Can't beat that with a baseball batRDX reflash before and after -- remember this is an awd suv, so the motor was designed for torque delivery...nonetheless, the results are pretty nice
lol, so why do you guys think this car is going to be so expensive?
The Mugen not selling is not a feasible gauge of a type-r civic's potential success! As someone mentioned, the Mugen was a flop because it offered very little benefit for such an insane price increase. Like why would I pay close to 7k over a standard si for a body kit, intake, and exhaust. Mugen body kits are always expensive because they are wind tunnel tested, the type-r wouldn't have to go through the sort of R&D and on such a small economies of scale, especially if the type-r platform was international.
I see all of these things as the problem to drive up the cost of the car. The Mugen flopped in sale because the enthusiast didn't see a "real" gain over the regular Si. The Type R, IMO, would have the same price bump similar to the Mugen because of the body mods then add a little more money for the power it gains and the fact that it is a Type R. Then there is all the costs associated with bringing a new platform/car over to the states. All the crash testing and modifing the car to comply have costs and those cost have to go somewhere.
Enthusiast will see the same as they did with the Mugen, bigger price tag with minimal power gains. You will get an exclusive car with flashy aero bits but most enthusiast will want power over exclusivity.
granted the pics were from a rendering in oct 2011. I'm sure it'll closely resemble that though.
