Issue with Fog Lamps going out.

Hello, I swapped the factory fog bulbs with Nokya H11 55W bulbs. They did fit and ran fine for 7 months until yesterday when I noticed they didn't come on anymore

I pulled the bulb, the bulbs doesn't look like its gone. I checked the voltage of the harness from the bulb connector when it was on, Passenger side - 14.30v Driver Side - 14.28v (But the housing says DESIGN VOLTAGE is for 12.8v)

I turn off the switch, no voltage. So that's good. Would it be that both bulbs going out at the same time? I can't think of any other issue. So should I go to auto-zone and check if it is just the bulbs that went out? I can take a picture of them if someone wants to look at the internals.

I also noticed the inside of the housing on the plastic it's discolouring. Anyway to fix this?

They both went at the same time or when you noticed they both happened to be out? Curious if something caused them to blow or it it was one and then the other just over time. I know sometimes the aftermarket bulbs don't last as long as you'd like. I've swapped the DRL bulb a couple times and basically had 2 die on one side and the other one last forever. 6-7 months seemed to be about the time the one kept dying. It's been good so far, knock on wood, but it's getting to be about that time again.

Also, the hazing, a little rubbing compound from pepboys/autozone should take it right off. If it's inside then it was probably something that burned off of the housing or the bulbs from increased heat. Might have to take the housing apart to clean/buff it.
 
When I noticed it, both of them were out. Well then it could be the bulbs just went out already :/. What should I put back into the housing then now? Go to autozone and go OEM (If they got Honda bulbs) Or get aftermarket H8 bulbs? I did notice that when I was running these, the lens was pretty damn hot, which I think was because I was using 55W
 
Which car do you have again? 2012/13 coupe/sedan? Si or non-SI?
 
The 2013 Si Sedan should have an H8 fog light bulb. It's a change from the 2012s and from the non-Si and the coupe which all run the H11. Order a set of H8 bulbs and see if they don't last longer. It's a minor change but could be the answer. Sometimes things fit even when they shouldn't.

Alrighty then, I'll go that route and see how it goes. Thanks for the useful picture, Just saved that on my drop box :P

I knew I was using H11's, and they fit surprisingly well. Guess it was just gonna be some time till they went out. Time to do shopping. I love my Yellow ones, I kinda wanna get another set of 3k ones

Nevermind I can't read, I need H8's

Hey again, Should I try out getting Xenondepot 3k H8 kit? I don't want it to look bad, and reflect all weird, or save my money and get a full Foglamp Retrofit later on?
 
The HID kit for fogs? I know they run super hot and people in the past have had issues with the extra heat cracking lenses and such. A retro is always awesome but in the meantime you could certainly give it a shot.

$22 for H8 2500k fog bulbs. Also they are only 35W so you "shouldn't" have any issues with heat or burning out.

I've run these in my wifes car in a 9005 size for DRL with good luck. One burned out and one lasted forever, second set I only swapped one and it's been good since. 1yr+ I had the 7000k version and had the same 6-7mo run on one and then second set swapped one and no issues.


The H8 at 35W vs the H11 bulbs at 55W may have been your issues initially also.
 
Ya that was the kit I was looking at, but I might as well go for the regular Hyper Yellows, and save my money to actually modify my headlights. Just bought the regular bulbs. Also since I had that discolouration, I'm 100% sure it's inside. Should I bake the housings @ 250f for 10 minutes so I can clean the inside and treat it?
 
@FRDRICE - He's the guy to ask. I've not taken apart foglights. He is an accomplished retrofitter from what I've read. May have some insight.

The fog lights are an absolute pain to take apart as they're what we called permasealed which is almost a permanent sealant. You can get them apart but they will required a lot of heat or cutting them open.

We have replacements that will work for the '13 Si Sedan here:

Not sure if you're looking to spend that kind of money though, however they're a great upgrade. You will have to trim the factory bracket put i have all the pictures needed for that.

Okay cool thanks man. Appreciate the response back. Looks like I'll run stock for a while, and once winter season comes, parts shall come in!
