Lane Watch camera. Pretty much useless at night.

I find LaneWatch and the backup camera to be distractions from the usual shoulder checks. I get the feeling it's giving me a false sense of security, so I haven't made it a habit of looking at them.
On poorly-lit roads, LaneWatch isn't great for the reasons the OP mentioned, but it does serve a purpose and it's a nice extra tool to have. Personally, I don't feel comfortable relying solely on it for lane changes.
 
Same here. I never trust people in the other lane to stay there while im making the move either.

If you have a slow reaction or neck problems, then it's understandable why you're not shoulder checking.

Yep that's the way to get rid of the blind spoits (and you don't have the B pillar or the roofline or the headrests blocking your view). Plenty of spots where you can't see what's in the blind spots when you look over your shoulder due to headrests, B pillar, roofline, etc. which is why you learn to use your mirrors. Not really a debate, just people who haven't adjusted their mirrors correctly yet. :) :)
 
I've gotten used to the lanewatch and feel it works better than looking over the should. I still look over but 100% of the time it's dead on accurate. 2 times however, when I activate lanewatch by either alerting right turn or manually by pushing the button, it will turn the screen black for 3 seconds as apposed to 1 second. I find that it does it the whole ride. Ones I shut down the car and restart again it's back to normal. Hope it's not an indication of an issue and just a glitch.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not sure the speed but it always was very quick to get the camera on my screen. Like .5-1 second.

So you're saying in order for it to work properly you have to use your turn signal?
If you just use the button, there's a delayed black-out?
 
Hmm. I also notice some delay from time to time. It deosnt matter if activated by button or if turn signal; they seem to delay randomly. I wouldn't call it a glitch, probably the computer is being overloaded. Remember, the car's OS isn't as powerful as our computer's.
 
OK..... I thought it might be a safety feature to make sure to signal 1st...........

I've had that happen to me also. I chalked it up to a computer glitch and the delay was gone next time I started up my car.
The screen usually changes to the lane watch view very quickly.

Never had that happen, but I agree, it does display pretty quickly. The best feature, as far as I'm concerned, is that to use it, you either have to use the turn signal or push the button. At least it gives people another reason to use turn signals.
 
Cool, i'm happy i'm not the only one with this issue, and not really considered an issue. Yeah it happens rarely. In the past 6 months of owning the car it's happened twice since i can remember. I guess i was worried it's a signal that its going to fail soon. When it does happen, it goes away when i restart my car.
