Love or Hate Facebook’s New Personal Promoted Posts?

Facebook announced on Wednesday U.S. users will now be able to promote their personal posts to friends for a fee, but the news is being met with mixed reactions.

Although testing first started in New Zealand in May and has since rolled out to more than 20 countries, those in the U.S. can now pay to make sure your network never misses a big update in your life, from a baby announcement to an event you’re organizing. But each promoted post will cost you $7.

That’s right, you can pay to make sure your content is seen by friends on Facebook. This raises two major questions: Why should you have to pay for something that was once already a part of the site, and does this mean we’ll now inundated with life updates we don’t really care about?

Some argue users might not take advantage of the promoted option, while others believe it could be a great resource for getting news out about bands, garage sales and ticketed events. Facebook seems to think it will make the entire experience better for its users.

“Sometimes a particular friend might not notice your post, especially if a lot of their friends have been posting recently and your story isn’t near the top of their feed,” Facebook said in a blog post. “When you promote a post – whether it’s wedding photos, a garage sale, or big news – you bump it higher in news feed so your friends and subscribers are more likely to notice it.”

But what say you? Is this a good thing? A gateway to even more news feed clutter?

I can't see me wanting to spend $7 for more of my fb friends to see my wedding photos. If they know I'm getting married, they care about me, they'll find them.

The consumers control the industry, no one buys it, they'll let us have it for free and find another way to make money on the commercial end,etc....... It's our fault...... Hope you stick to your guns.

I've had the same phone and price of my contract(long ago released) for over 4 years, I'm paying about $45 a month and enough time to talk any where in the USA when I want 24/7................ I do like it better than a hard line. So I am slowly beginning to melt into the pot.

^fixed.
Since it went public, it's dropped in value by 42% while the dow jones has increased by 9%. They opened up online gaming (essentially casino gaming for some countries), and now they're doing this. They need to make shareholders happy and increase their share price/increase revenue.

Luckily for me, I don't think any of my friends are retarded enough to waste their money on this BS. The whole idea of it is ridiculous. You want an event to be seen that you're having? Use the EVENT feature and invite whoever the hell you want. They are forced to see it and usually respond. Want someone to see certain posts/pictures? Message them. If they don't wanna look at it, then leave them be. Chances are if you are really close to the friend you are trying to promote these posts to, they've "starred" you and get every update imaginable by you anyway. Why spend money ($7 no less!) to do something you've been doing or can be doing for free? It just baffles the mind :scratches:

What? Nobody thought about the fact that if everyone does it and it takes off (unlikely) then you still won't get any more visibility than anyone else and instead you're now paying for status updates.

What's the difference between face book and using email with CC or BCC. ?
I have my mailling list set up with categories so it takes an extra sec or two to add as many friends as I want.

Facebook opens floodgates for mobile ads in your News Feed.

As it searches for ways to make money on mobile, the social network moves a new strategy out of test phase and will let all app developers buy space in your News Feed. For months, Facebook has been testing a new kind of ad on mobile devices—ads for other apps. Now it's officially launched the app-ad program to all developers.

Here's how it works: Developers place ads on Facebook's website and its mobile apps. When users install their apps, developers pay a fee. Because Facebook has a huge audience, and because its fast-growing base of mobile users have already shown they're willing to download Facebook's own app, it's a natural audience for these ads. TinyCo, a mobile games maker, reported having 50 percent higher click-through rates. Companies like Zoosk, the online-dating service, and Fab, the e-commerce site, have also been running ads in tests.

Yeah...I barely see my friend's posts anymore on my mobile thanks to this crap. Facebook is quickly losing any brownie points they may have had left with me.
