Video Surveillance ^^

SAN DIEGO - Over a dozen vehicles were vandalized at a Mission Valley car dealership after a man was seen smashing cars and other dealership property early Saturday, police said. Hines Mazda surveillance video shows a man talking on a cell phone around 3 a.m. Saturday. The man apparently throws the phone at the silver sports utility vehicle, then he kicks the passenger side door several times, said Steve Ranck, collision center manager.

Ranck said that was just the beginning. About 25 minutes later, the suspect is seen again stumbling through the parking lot with what appears to be some sort of pole to smash the windows of several new cars, he said. "We had a bench right outside the front for our customers to sit. He actually picked that up and threw it through our glass windows," Ranck said. "He came inside the office, started pulling all the phones off, throwing things out the window, breaking all the glass."

"Before they had a chance to capture him, he damaged about 14 cars and one customer car," said Ranck. "It's kind of strange that you'd find somebody vandalizing. It looks like he might have been at a party at one of the bars down the street."

When officers arrived, they used a Taser on the suspect after he motioned that he was going to throw a rock at them, San Diego police Sgt. William Brown said. "We got here, took him into custody. Tried to figure out who he was," Brown said. "He didn't give us a whole lot of information, but he did do some pretty good damage."

Police arrested 22-year-old Edward Roth, who was wearing a vest, shirt, and tie standing outside.
The video images of the suspect might be clear, but police said the motive is not. "He never purchased a car here, never had any service or body work done here at all," Ranck said. "Just a random act that he decided to let himself go at this time."

Police said the estimated amount of damage is about $50,000. Hines Mazda car lot boarded up windows on the collision repair center. "Unfortunately, it's not going to look as nice as we would usually have it, but we're going to be open for business," Ranck said. Roth faces burglary and felony vandalism charges.

something obviously set him off when he chucked his cell phone... (at least it seems that way). Not sure how a cell conversation turns into destroying cars/buildings though
