...Starting to think I don't want a yard
With a yard comes a mower, trimmer… maybe a blower. I’d imagine you’d need sprinklers in most parts of Texas to keep grass growing? Or, you pay a company to deal with everything lawn related and you do other things with your time. Fake lawns are a thing in dry areas. I’d assume xeriscape is also popular there?

You plant native things that don’t really need much water, and you just plant them with rocks and stuff.

If your grass is green in Texas, you're usually doing the landscaping equivalent of blood-doping. I like that Xeriscape idea, though -- that sounds perfect.
