Multi-information display is dimmed

The multi-information is dimmed. Could it be a bulb or damaged LCD? The dealer wants $320 just to troubleshoot it. It seems to me they would know what's wrong just by looking at it. Can't be the first car they've seen with this problem. Any ideas?

This seems to be a common problem in warmer climates like florida. I've seen this same type of issue on reddit countless times where uses had to swap out the lcd for the imid display. Users seem to always go to ebay to find replacement units.
