Guess I should add that i have gigabit internet and would probably have it hard wired but would also like to have the ability to use wifi on it. Would also like to be able to have multiple hard drives be it HDD or SSD. Also a couple extra spots for adding more memory later on if needed.

I wouldn't buy based on onboard wifi. That's an expensive add-on when adding a PCI card would maybe be a better option.

32GB is more than ample for even a power user. I can't imagine anything that the normal user would be doing that requires more than 32GB. Maybe if you started editing 4K video, but otherwise it would be overkill to step up to 64GB. Not to mention expensive as you would need 4X16GB matched. That being said, most ATX boards will have 4 DIMM slots, so if you decided to upgrade late you could.

horrible night of site issues - and I just don't have it in me to go through your list in my current mental state. I had it all in my plans to work on it and then the server database chunked it's pants for hours. I will pull up some options for you though. Sorry

No problem I'm in no hurry so whenever you can is fine with me. You do what you need to do.

Then my little computer problems seem insignificant. New M.2 drive is due to come in today. I’ll give it a whirl and update on what I believe failed on my PC. Really hoping that it’s a mobo problem. Not because I wanna upgrade that but keep all the stuff on that SSD.

I have it taken apart and gonna try a 2.5 inch SDD that I know can be booted as it has OS. Ordered a 500 GB M.2 to see if the chips are the problem or if it’s the mobo.

I feel like the motherboard has been giving me grief lately on the USB front.
How did it go with booting from that SSD?

That saves around $100 versus the rx580 in your listing.

if you don't need the rbg on the cpu - this is a great heatsink. Doesn't save a ton if you're wanting the lights though

if you really do want wifi onboard that would support gigabit+ speed, you'd need to go up in motherboards to something like this. The one you picked does not have onboard wifi. I would tell you to run a network cable to the pc if you're running gigabit net, but that is obviously your choice, and I have no idea how your wiring situation is to your router from where this pc would be.

if you don't want to do the onboard wifi, you could go with something like this and save yourself a bit. It supports gigabit wired connections, has m.2 if you want to use that down the road, can take up to 64 gigs of ram, 6 sata ports for drives, etc.

I've used these gskill ripjaws in the past and they were good. Supports 3200mhz

I realize a lot of people go crazy with case design, so that's kind of up to you. I'd go through the atx mid category and see if anything else strikes you if these aren't to your liking. You should be able to find a mid case that will save you quite a bit of money, and it should still have plenty of storage bays for additional hard drives.

when I click on your list it says 224 watts estimated usage.

that processor you chose is saying 105 watts full tilt
cpu fan/heatsink 10 watts full tilt
(msi board I linked without wifi) is saying 70w full tilt
gskill ripjaw ram is saying 29w
500gig ssd is saying 10 w

224w going 100% on every item listed. So even if you added 2 or 3 more SSD drives in, you're looking at just another 30w give or take, and that'd still be as if every ssd was pulling 100% duty at the same time. I don't really see how that would be happening on 3+ drives simultaneously. If you even decided you had to go to 64 gigs of ram, you'll be at an additional 29 watts at 100%.

People can obviously chime in and say I'm off my rocker, but I'd have no issue with a 550w gold rated psu like this. It's nice that it's modular so you can take the time to make your cabling situation nice and neat, and not have to hide unnecessary cables you may not need at any given time.

I've had similar setups rendering huge 4k video edits without the slightest of issues.

skip your audio card you had listed. You do not need that - the onboard audio will be fine for what you're doing.

the only other thing I'd suggest is figuring out your case. Once you know what case you're going with you can look at the fan situation. You may want to look at something like this to help pull air in/ push air out the back depending on the config the case is in. Once you see the case you want, you can see what size fans it can support/comes with and then determine how much you need for air flow.

All great recommendations. Saves you beaucoup bucks and still a VERY SOLID build. Arguably better suited to what you're looking for.

oh, and as far as windows goes, you can purchase full versions of windows 10 with a certificate of authenticity / full dvd / license key for pretty cheap on ebay. Example -
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-64...ion-DVD-COA-Product-Key-Brandnew/401855229246

I would HIGHLY suggest not buying a "widows key" from ebay/online, where you can find them for like $1-12 dollars. A number of times those are volume licenses or cracked codes that can be deactivated at any time by microsoft.

Is windows 10 what to go with or is an earlier version better suited for a new build?

Yeah ^ sadly Windows 7 is losing support from Windows, so 10 is really your best option on a new build. I mean you can scrap windows all together if you want to try an open source option like Linux. You’ll just have to realize that you’ll need to use some other software to deal with editing and stuff. There are programs out there. You’d also want to alter the build plans slightly to make sure the hardware has up to date Linux support for whatever version of Linux you’d like to try. Certain graphics cards and motherboards would work better if you want to go that route. With the right hardware you could also go hackintosh, but you’re also upping the curve on initial install difficulty (I know you clearly are used to macs). All depends on how much you want to tinker with things.

My mac I have now is the only one I've ever had. It's about 4 years old now and it took me a while to get used to it. I always had windows before that and I think 7 was the last one I used regularly. I would be fine going back to windows.

What computer chairs do you all have? I'm selling my DX Racer chair on Thursday... I want something that is cloth... I prefer a higher back... Arms of course. Not super pricey. lol

Well computer recognizes there are bootable devices but won’t go beyond the bios.

Something ran amuck in the hard drive.

Put in the hard drive that had the OS on it and it read it. New M.2 drive was going to run fine. Gonna keep it.

calling WD about warranty as the drives were only 2 years old. Moot point to try to replace since I already have replacements but if I can get data recovery, then I’ll be happy.

otherwise, that was my first SSD failure.

I don't know how much the data is worth to you, but these guys do recoveries for $300 with a few caveats
https://www.300dollardatarecovery.com/

way cheaper than basically any other company out there doing data recovery by miles

Expanded capacity and setup a backup drive.

New specs on storage. No RAID config but daily backups to that SSD
1.5TB M.2 storage (500GB and 1TB Samsung 970)
2.0TB 2.5 SSD backup drive (Samsun 860)
