So you'd expect your $10,000 wheels to be strong, right? COR Fail.

Or put them in acid prior to testing them?
 
I was astounded (also) to read from the customer how much time had passed. I too would have lawyered up.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid this guy is going to get screwed over by them. Regardless, I just hope this incident makes enough of an impression to prevent anyone else from ever purchasing their products.
 
Crazy that all they could've done was honor the warranty and replace the wheel. I've been following this since it got posted here

The boneheads running this company ought to be more worried about having bad rims out there, because it only takes one to cause a serious accident that injures people. This one was luckily in a controlled environment.
 
Am I the only one that can see some of COR's side? If I sold a product for $10k and it broke and now I had to refund $10k I would do anything in my power to make sure the fault was on my end before refunding the money. And if a customer reaches out to me via representatives and lawyers they would get the same treatment. Imo I agree he should have gotten a refund, it shouldn't have taken that long to get that done. But at the same time he kinda gets what he deserves for immediately being an a$$ about it. That's not the way to conduct business on EITHER parties part and it certainly isn't news worthy because of that.
 
He said he submitted a warranty claim by himself initially.... it was denied, and then he had a lawyer submit a claim/letter. I'm guessing it'd only be the 1 wheel being replaced under warranty as well... so $2k retail, not 10k retail

I'm not sure this wheel is on their high end, I just know some of them can reach 10k. This may be 6-7k, but still, a lot of money.
 
Before this post,, I've never even heard of COR, when I think Top End wheels i think of BBS, VOLK/RAYS, HRE, WORK and maybe ENKEI. I just think COR handled the whole bad. Some pieces maybe be missing but overall COR should've worked with the customer and found a resolution.
 
True. But COR did say that they analyzed the wheel and the paint degraded the bond of the aluminum and that's one of the reasons the denied the claim. Changing the wheel in any way and expecting them to still honor a warranty? That doesn't work on quite a lot of products. I'm not defending COR on this but I do see both sides.
 
I get what your saying, Maybe the OP should've had COR do the work themselves. But it's just crazy that this story is all over the net. All wheels will fail at some point. But honestly I have yet to see a volk wheels broken. I've seen them bent pretty bad but never broken one. Im sure heating and painting will affect the metal but enough to weaken it that much? I'm checking this everyday to see the verdict lol :popcornbig:
 
I saw them say they wanted to test the wheels to see if the paint process damaged the wheels from some test analysis... I never saw them say they had results or proof the paint hurt the wheels.
 
Ashraf has a set of COR wheels on his GT-R. They are nice in person, but they are show/street/flashy wheels. I wouldn't use them for track purposes.

Yes, as has been said, wheels break on the track, you run into things, hit kerbs, other cars etc, but they usually just bend horribly. Failing in the middle is horrible.

Jongbloed racing,volk, bbs, forgeline and HRE.. they make wheels that last.

I don't recall seeing where they had done the testing showing the failure was a result of the painting either???

My initial thought though was that it may be on the OP as I've seen a few motorcycle wheels fail as a result of after market chroming. It would be interesting to know exactly what was done to the wheels. However, COR changing the web page was sketchy. Had these been unmodified wheels I wonder if the outcome would have been the same...
 
OK I reread it. It states that COR received the wheel and inspected them and were concerned about the paint. So they wanted to further analyze that. However, my point still stands. Put a header (if it was possible) on the si and go out and crack the head. Chances are Honda wouldn't warranty that. Or they would try not to. Like I said I see both sides. And I have a feeling there's more to it. I mean in the OP the link takes me to the dudes forum post. Not a news article or anything. So we really only have him saying what happened at the track. On a side note I also thing its pretty weird like right after that ordeal with the camaro being abused this happens. I was completely against the shop on the camaro deal though. On this one at this point I still wouldn't be able to make a decision.
 
the company that painted the wheels should easily be able to come forward and say what type of paint was used, prep method, & chemicals that may have touched the wheels. It could at least be a starting point while they're holding his wheel hostage.
 
Very true. Nothing has been said about who painted the wheels and how it was done.
