so as i ahve stated before i am new to the whole Honda scene so when i hear people palking honda i get lost so please tell me what all honda stuff means like

vtec
type r
gsr
ls vtec
like i know what a b series motor is and what a d series motor is but other than that i am really in the dark on honda talk like what is better sohc or dohc what is the advantages and disadvantages of this and any info u can give me it would be awesomne so maybe i can contribute to the honda talk at work

wikipedia is far from the best source, but it lists the various generations of the type r on a page here:

but there are type r cars that came out for the integra, the nsx, civic, etc.. essentially a higher hp, limited edition car that was special.

Integra GS-R was a big deal in the 90s.

not sure what you want to know about the integra, but wikipedia also has 2 pages for it

LS-vtec
a B series non-vtec engine is known as an LS. People can buy them pretty cheap, and then buy a vtec head for it.

is it bad that my car is a sohc i was told that they can build more torque and waht does si mean lol to me it means fast

what is a k series motor and a r series motor
 
d series engines - such as d16 - 1.6 liter engine (6th gen civic engines)
d series engine - such as the d17 - 1.7 liter engine (7th gen civic engines)
r series engines - such as the r18 - 1.8 liter engine (8th-9th gen civic engines)

the person to talk to about the r18 engine is 420Coupe

by far the most anyone has done to an r series engine. Supposed to be the first sleeved r18 block.

k series motors - put into the acura integra, the rsx, the civic si, etc. They started using them in the cr-v, the accord, the tsx, on and on.

The R18A1 is the first implementation of the DOHC turned into 1 SOHC with two diff cam profiles, much like a DOHC would produce. They do build more torque although im not sure if thats due to the more efficient SOHC mechanism or the oval shaped pistons. Si stands for the K20Z3 model of the 06-11 Civic, till now the K has proven KING, we'll see if we cant defy that this shortly!! :biggrin:

It does but not in the same sense as some of the other engines, such as the k or b series. The r18 variable timing is purely economical and not for performance.

Yes it does have VTEC, but it's implemented oposite.

Yes, more or less correct.

The VTEC for the R18 is only on if certain parameters are met such as between certain RPM and between a certain speed etc, it use used solely to improve MPG on this platform instead of producing more power as it does on the B or K series.
