For all the U-S-A, U-S-A rah rah that goes around, the United States can be a shameful place.

The below map lays out some of the statistically worst things about each state. It covers everything from health to crime to travel to drug use. Some states don't have it so bad (Ohio, the "nerdiest") but others really kind of suck (Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity at 35.3% of total population ... and ranks poorly in the most number of categories. These include highest rate of child poverty at 31.9%, highest rate of infant mortality at 10.3% lowest median household income at $35,078, highest teen birth rate at 71.9 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 19 and highest overall rate of STDs. Phew.)

It's not 100% science proof ... some of the metrics are taken from purely qualitative rankings (i.e. North Dakota).

It's supposed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek, but some of the stats will really shock you.

Some people from Ohio need to meet some people in Maine lol
Im glad they put bankruptcy for Missouri, I was thinking it couldve been A LOT worse!! Haha

Even more screwed up is there are no alcohol sales on Sundays. Even weirder...grocery stores cannot sell cold beer at all and in order to sell liquor outside of a liquor store, a store must have a licensed pharmacy.

Another one: No motorized vehicle sales are allowed on Sundays either.

It could be the same for many states.

I must live near/have vistied all the wrong parts of Ohio. The overuse of libraries definitely doesn't seem rampant in those parts.

Yep. Good ole Morgantown.

Not so much as close to Ohio as where I'm from, Weirton, WV, which is literally a 5 drive to either the Ohio or PA boarder.

California: most air pollution (15.2 micrograms per cubic meter)
Doesn't California have the most pollution restrictive laws in America? WTF..........

Wildfires...half the state burns every summer and fall, no rainfall, etc. Problem is when CDF starts the wildfire, which is quite several per year.

Unfair to Maine was SAT score. Read the source and Washington DC is lower. Hehehe. The folks in that town think they're smarter than we are LOLOL. Since when is the SAT out of something other than 1600?

Utah: highest rate of of online porn subscriptions
I'm not shocked..... Very restrictive "Party State"... Not much to do(with the exception of outdoor sports).

North Dakota: ranked last in ugliest residents report as chosen
South Dakota: highest rate of forcible rape 76.5 per 100,000

So, I'm guessing most of the rapist are ND peeps, coming down to SD to find victims?

Upstate NY and probably all over - The amount of ridiculous rules on everything! I live 5 minutes from Lake Ontario and I can't go in the water cause there is no lifeguard. The police actually patrol and yell at everyone who steps foot on the beach not to touch the water unless they want trouble. Also don't try and walk out on the pier unless you want a lecture, then you can go. Oh and you shouldn't be here at this time of day, why arent' you in school/work, you must be up to no good, lemme see some identification.

Things that get the police to talk to you:

Lake Ontario - No swimming, no fishing, no playing in the sand, no nothing!

Genesee river - No fishing, swimming, kayaks or canoes, riding bikes on the bike path faster than 5mph, running if people are walking on the paths, existing within view of another person

Downtown - Going to a restaurant to spend money. Come back to a parking ticket. I think they seriously come around and plasti-dip the curb red once you park and then peel it off. I mean come on... who puts a parking meter in the middle of a no parking curb area?

Sheesh I go to anywhere else, and if you can get to the water you can go in.

Get stopped for:

Tint, rims, clean car, dirty car, driving to work, driving home from work, being anywhere and under 50yrs old, being alive, speeding, driving the speed limit, changing lanes, signaling, not being in jail already, not having gotten a ticket in a while, and so on..

It just seems like no matter where you go in this state there is a rule you are breaking and someone there to tell you so.

It will be interesting to contrast all of that with Louisville after a year or so of living there.
