Low MPG

I have put 48 miles on my 2013 Civic Si so far, mainly on local roads. the average mpg is only 19...
I thought it could reach to a level around 23...
there are other issues. It starts really slow. It's 4 cylinder of course, so cannot be compared with 6 cylinders.
The control bar/lever of headlight has no illumination led built in. so it's supposed to be on "Auto" as always? this is not the case on the manual. It makes a pain to check the position of headlight control at night.

48 miles is just not enough mileage to even really do anything with mileage. You need to fill up the car, reset your trip meter and start driving. When you get your full tank done, divide the number of miles driven on that tank by the gallons purchased. Short trips or distances will not be accurate on the i-MID. The overall tank value isn't even going to be 100%. I've seen 4+ or minus mpg on a full tank compared to what the i-MID says.

I don't understand the headlight question... "Check the position of the headlight at night?" Are you trying to aim your headlights up/down on a wall? Or... could you explain further?

So you bought a new car with who knows how much fuel was in the tank when you received it. Another thing is how much time have you spent piddling with it while idling, not to mention wanting to check out how fast the response is(your words).
I'd suggest going to the gas station right now and fill her up(and try to fill the same way every time "fuel handle on the slowest click" near the end of the fill and no pumping to get that extra in). And the next fill check your mpg with your cell phone calculator, and see how close it compares to the cars fuel range(miles divided by gals.=).
You need to check one thing per fuel test , how many mpg's you're getting.... or what it will do in the quarter mile but not both on the same tank.

He's talking about the headlight control "stick" on the steering column. It doesn't light up at night like other controls that are not on the steering column.
You just have to get used it to the feel of it instead of looking for an LED to tell you what is what. If you leave it on Auto, then you never have to think about it.

My mpg was weird when I first bought mine too. Probably because of people test driving it, the dealer showing me all the features, etc. I wouldn't worry about it that much, just give the engine some time to break in.

The OP is talking about the lack illumination on the light switch. Most cars have this illuminated while the civic does not. Getting into a car at night you would expect the instrument panel to be lit up completely.

The auto feature is awesome! Well, except when you are working on your car with the stereo on in your garage at and forget to turn them off and it kills your battery.
Actually It sucks i got pulled over the other day because it was raining and my head lights were not on. It was bright enough during the day but in inclement wheather they must be on. I quickly explained why they were not on and he let me go.

I'm not sure why you think your Si is slow... is something wrong with it?

I noticed this problem too, so I adjusted the sensitivity setting. But I'm unsure why the cop even noticed that it was only the DRL's running on your car. It's not like the lights were all off...

Were your DTRL's on? I'm wondering if there is a difference in our law(VA), about having headlights on while raining, and that the dtrl doesn't count with Va.. For future reference......

yeah, I was not connecting the dots there. I get it now. I guess I'm just used to it? I don't think I've ever had a car where that was illuminated....let alone seen a car where it was illuminated?
I was saying the headlight control lever position, off/headlight/sidemarker/auto..
my previous 2000 jetta has not led in that lever either.
when I opened the door at night, odometer and other internal lights automatically lights up in a moderate way, this is really good, human oriented design. but why not the
headlight switch too.. the auto mode sometimes does not work very well though it works during the night.
