2014 navigation package vs none?

I'm looking into buying a 2014 civic si. I just came back from the dealership, and they were talking about using the HondaLink package and not getting a model with navigation package (they were actually steering me away from buying it). It seems like all 2014 civic si will have stock touch screens. Is there still a reason to get the navigation package? Does anyone know if you can unlock it, or is there different hardware that comes with the navi? I wanted to check in with actual owners. Thanks.

I'd say forget the salesman as far as getting what you want........ Use this forum over the weekend and we'll tell you everything you want to know so you can make an informed choice......

1st off, if the dealer doesn't have what you want(color/packages/size wheels/etc.), they can find it and have it brought to them.

Some sales ppl will try to talk ppl into buying what's on the lot.... saves them time.

OH..... Welcome....... Hope you get what you want.

Welcome to the forum.

As @Monk said, spend some time here and see what your options are. Here in Canada we only have the one model of Si which comes with Nav. I like the system in the '12s and '13s but if I had to pay an extra 3K for it, I might have thought twice. There are lots of aftermarket options available as well as possibly the Hondalink system. I just don't know enough about the latter to speak to it.

To answer your first question, I haven't heard of anyone unlocking the factory system.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, the thing is, I guess there isn't much information on the system yet since the '14 is still being made in small numbers. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not there's any point in getting the navi system. I do have an android phone and I've heard hondalink is coming to android soon. Which means I can get on-screen navi using NaviLink.

The navi model adds:
  • 7-inch Display Audio with Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ and Voice Recognition, Honda HD Digital Traffic, High-Resolution WVGA (800x480) Electrostatic Touch-Screen, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Dynamic Guidelines and Customizable Feature Settings
  • HD Radio
  • XM® Radio

It's a $1500 MSRP difference between the standard SI and the navi model. Unlocking the navi is highly unlikely, as I've not seen anyone do it on the other years.

Unless you get unlimited data with your phone provider I'd buy with navi. That's what I did. I only get 6g's of data. Most u can get in canada. And I'm assuming if u use the phone for the navi you'll eat your data quickly. So it was worth it for me to get navi. If I had unlimited I may of thought different. Only if it was a 14 model. The non navi in the 12-13 is hideous. Another reason I got navi plus the fog lights leather and 17's. I got a cnd only 2013 civic touring edition. Plus lots more goodies like auto climate control

I like the addition of the multi angle backup cam..that's pretty neat. Not sure if it's worth the extra change though
