no not catalytic converters, but cats. There is a family of stray cats that live in or near my neighborhood and for some reason they have recently decided the trunk of my car is the place to be. Ive never seen them on the car but in the mornings find dirty paw prints and claw scratches in the paint around a bunch of the paw prints.

Im looking for ideas to convince this furry little family my trunk is not desirable real estate.

So far its been suggested that i put a towel on the trunk to keep them off but im not sure how that would work after the first cat (or drunk undergrad) pulls the towel off.

I also found some ultrasonic+strobe light cat repeller devices online but dont know how well they work, or where i should put it, on the grass near the car, suction cup on the trunk while parked, and again whats to keep the drunk kids from deciding to take my new toy.

I heard moth balls leave a scent that cats don't like.

I live in an apartment building so planting things isnt an option, but i can try putting some citrus peels around the car, maybe hide a few in the trunk as well

It's A Fast Pig!
They are trolling you hard.

Hahaha. In any case I had a similar problem with squirrels leaving scratches and dirty paw marks all over my car.

Try parking in a different spot? I don't know how your lot is setup but I park 8 spaces down now and it seems to help a lot. Just too darn far to go.

I also waxed the crap out of it more regularly, just a spray wax, so it was slippery and they definitely didn't seem to like that. I got more scratch marks from them sliding but they are pretty light and buff out easily. After the first couple days they stopped trying to get on my car cause it was just a hassle for them.

(Hit the roof, trunk, hood real quick when you get home to make it slick and hard for them to jump onto. Meguiars spray wax for $10 at auto zone/pepboys)

Kinda of a soft spot for me,I love cats and I understand not wanting paw prints or scratches, but from another point of view in 2001 I was leaving my then apartment building and noticed a meow coming from a front of one of the cars parked next to mine, here was a beautiful white and gray female longhair cat with a leash stuck to the wheel well(stuck to the tie rod) she was not in a good way if someone left in a hurry she would have been killed for sure or dragged to death. She was very gentile for the situation so I took her inside and gave her a bath, she was filthy and wasn't stressed about the water which I felt was weird, she had a collar but no info except the vet office.we called and the vet had no info anymore,he said she must have been abandoned but her name was Dolly and she was almost 2.i wasn't taking her to the pound where she would possibly die ,so we decoded to have cat number 4. She was a great cat,she recently died a couple of years back at 11 but I'm telling you she knew the whole time I saved her from death that day and lived a great life.So please be kind to the strays, most of them are great cats, just in a bad spot, alot are abandoned, especially these days. there are ways to keep them away but it will never be avoided completely and most of the time they just leave a dirt mark from there paws,if you have a dog walk it around the car when you take it out, they say it may deter them.Sorry for the long wind, but the topic just reminded me of Dolly,Rip...

Our cat prefers the DBPII SI trunk to our '98 Grey EX - Just grateful she had good taste!
