Help installing sub in factory rear speaker location

I have a 2014 civic lx sedan. I purchased the digital design sw6.5" subwoofer and was going to install it in one of my rear factory speaker locations, but once I pulled the speaker out and went to put the sub in it wouldn't fit through the hole. Can I just cut the factory hole a little bit bigger so I can place the sub in the factory location? I've seen a lot of people talk about the si having a factory sub. I don't have this but could I get a si rear deck mold and put it in my lx so I could have the sub cut out like the speakers or is there not one on the si rear deck? I don't know anything about the si models hence why I'm just tossing this question in.

The other problem you'll probably run into is the height of the aftermarket sub. People had issues installing aftermarket subs in the SI due to clearance. The trunk spring/bar that is under the deck is pretty shallow. The oem sub is pretty shallow to clear it. I think one person used a spacer to raise their sub to clear the springs, but most have used a box to hold their aftermarket subs.

Before you go taking things apart....... From what I've gathered from reading about sub woofers and other speakers on here about our Civics.... Is that it won't do any "sound improvement"..... without doing a lot of power improvements and other such mods....... The car won't even do the factory sub justice....... Bigger better speakers is 2nd only to the proper amount of power.........

Wait for some electric tech's to get on here with the info, before messing with it.

Don't waste your time. Honda's so-called 'Premium Audio System' with the external amp and subwoofer is a complete joke. The free-air sub in the rear deck does absolutely nothing, and you cannot even hear or feel any bass from it. The amp in the EX/Si Civic destroys the sound quality because it performs its own equalization on all channels. Installing a free-air sub in your rear deck would not improve anything. The stereo in your LX has better sound quality than the 'Premium' system because it does NOT have the external amp. You can install a line-out converter, an aftermarket amp, and a sub box in the trunk to improve the sound quality and add some bass. Of course a better option would be to replace all of the speakers and install components up front, coaxials in the rear deck, a sub in the trunk, and an amp to power it all.
