Hey guys and girls I wasnt sure if I was the only person who works on the railroad. Or is a fan of the railroad.
If you are whats your favorite railroad?
Where do you work and on what?

I work for the Providence & Worcester Railroad as a locomotive technician. I am a junior locomotive electrician and i love it.

How did you get into that. What do you do? How often do you travel, distance, where?

I don't work in anything locomotive, but am very interested to hear more about your job.. I work as an engineering manager of new product development in Ametek - TIP.

I love massively large mechanical things. :excited:

My dads best friend growing up owns a car shop that services all the vehicles for the railroad. During diesel school I worked for him, he talked to someone he know and got me a interview there. I Love my job but I'm the youngest person by 23 years, the older guys don't take so well to kids the first year now its great they teach me everything. I do all types of servicing to the locomotives, change out pistons but mainly I service and maintain speed control system and the "black box" I don't travel all that much and if I do its short distances.

I've always been fascinated by the railroad especially abandoned rail lines. Have been thinking about exploring some with an atv but I haven't been able to find out if there are any legal issues or if I can get in trouble for trespassing

the history of railroading is crazy how it became what it is now

Yes it is....

My dad did some work with railroad, seeing how train travels affects the underlaying gravel and soil under the tracks, I saw the video that was shot in the early 90's and the movement of that gravel and soil with the weight of a fully loaded train is quite a bit...

Just be careful there big and not as loud when there coming at you as most think. I'm sure you also know they don't stop all that fast. I have been to my fair share of accidents and only the lucky few have happy endings.

Road Car Inspector for the MTA\NYCTA
4 months on the job now
I chase down NYC's subway cars and do one of 3 things:
-troubleshoot enroute
-lay them up on a spur track so i can work on them easier
-remove them from service if i can't overcome condition
I love my job and not just because it's paying for my Honda!

I know exactly what you mean about "being the youngest" new guy Brooksie.
I'm 24, in my graduating class i was the baby, the next youngest gent was 35 lol
But any bs that we have to put up with only motivates us.
I strive every day to prove i know my sh*t.
I love my job.
Nice to meet someone else in the field!
