First Oil Change - 2012 Civic Si

Yeah, just stick with the recommended. You're planning on going synthetic?

0-20 mobil hasn't let me down and it can be found in a number of retailers. If you don't like that, you can alway go with honda's own oil as well. I don't see you having any issues with the valvoline either. Despite what "brand" you use, you really shouldn't be having any issues with your engine. Just keep tabs on your oil levels, and do regular changes. There are people who've gone 300k +miles in hondas with "regular" oil.

Yes I believe 0-20 only comes synthetic, I'm pretty sure I saw that on some site. I want to go Royal Purple but honestly I'm starting to think it's just over priced for something Mobil can do just as good for a cheaper price.

I just did my first oil change today at 7000 miles. I used 0W20 royal purple. First time I used this oil but I wanted the best I could get for my car.

search bobistheoilguy and you'll find endless reviews...either positive or negative. I've seen some claim RP didn't last as long for drain intervals, and some claimed it had issues shearing on naisoc

this claims valvoline conventional oil wins

you'll turn blue in the head if you do searches. Every car forum will say how much they hate or love RP.

that's for the 8th Si's though, the recommended for the 9th I believe is 0w20 like stated above. Should I just go with the 0w20 than and call it a day?

I got my oil changed at the dealer when the maintenance minder suggested the change (around 13k KMs). 0W20 is what they used. I didn't notice anything different in the way it drove after the maintenance.

YES! Trust me i've seen endless reviews today that's why I'm so lost on what to go with lol...Im kind of stuck on RP so I might just give it a shot. webby I have one more question, well just need input. I know my car comes in with the break-in oil Honda uses, should I wait till I reach the 10% or whatever it is to do the oil change? I kind of impatient want to do my first oil change at 3,000 miles...I know the oil change every 3000 miles rule is a myth but Idk when it'll be right to do that first oil change.

Should I change my oil? It already has 3500 miles on it and the maintenance reminder has it at 10%

if you're at 10% on the maintenance minder, that's time to change. Your dash should have the maintenance indicator on

Im a noob here, I live in vegas and my friends told me it is better to use 5w-30 oil than 0w-20 because of harsh environment... but which is which? thanks!

Usually 10% doesn't come on until around 5-6000 miles, and the light will constantly go off every time you start your car at 15% oil life left. I'm surprised yours came on in only 3500 miles, are you driving hard?

I live in AZ and I feel 0-20 is too thin. When I got my pistons replaced they used 10-20 and I thought they put the wrong oil in, but Honda recommends 10-20 for extreme conditions and AZ is considered extreme, as I'm sure Vegas would be also. But in my last oil change at the dealer they put 0-20 in and I didn't mention anything. I haven't noticed any difference.

No, I don't drive it that hard I only hit vtec once every other week and I don't redline. I got my oil change done getting it free for 7 years I think lol.

i drive a 13 si coupe. only about 2k+ miles on it but it says my oil life percentage is at 20%
What oil and filter would be best for my first change?

I use 0w20 mobile 1 full synthetic with wix oil filter and I like this setup didn't let me down with my other previous cars. Also make sure to change the crush washer with every oil change.
