After one of the fastest press conferences inauto show history, I spoke with Porsche representative Holger Eckhardt about the 2014 GT3. The car was unveiled at VW’s Group Night roughly 14 hours before its official Geneva Motor Show debut, so today’s event was more about showing the GT3 sitting next to the new GT3 Cup Car than an actual unveiling. The comparison between the two cars might answer enthusiasts biggest question about this new car.

“As early as the 996 GT3 talks had already begun about why the GT3 was still using a manual gearbox when better, faster technology existed,” Eckhardt said. It has been decades since top-level racecars have used a traditional manual transmission so a PDK does seem like the natural step. Some will argue that the GT3 should be Porsche’s driver’s car, but according to Matthias Muller, Porsche AG’s CEO, the GT3 is the ultimate distillation of Porsche’s DNA, which obviously focuses on GT Racing as much as road cars. The GT3 should be the ultimate transfer of race car to road car.

:barf: sorry, but burgundy red is an old man colour. Not sure about the carbon fibre either. IDK ....I love the NSX, it's my dream car, but I'm not feeling this interior at all.

Honda Opens Preorders For 2015 NSX In The UK

In a surprising move, Honda's UK arm announced today that it has opened a pre-order bank for the upcoming, second generation NSX hybrid sports car. We say surprising as up until now, the Japanese carmaker has, only shown pre-production concept versions of the NSX, which will be marketed under the Acura brand in North America and China.

Honda said it did so because it the NSX "is already receiving unprecedented demand" in the United Kingdom, where potential buyers can place a deposit of £5,000 (equal to $7,650 and €5,850 at the current exchange rates) to be among the first to get behind the wheel of the hybrid model when it arrives in British showrooms in 2015.

"We are really pleased with the interest we’ve already seen for the new NSX," said Phil Crossman, Managing Director of Honda UK. "We are still two years away from the launch of the car and yet we’ve received over 20 deposits and that’s before we’ve even announced prices or seen the final production car. With this process in place we are confident demand will remain strong and early hand raisers can now visit any Honda dealership in the UK and place a deposit."

It’s worth mentioning that Honda UK had done the same with the first generation of the NSX which saw 25 pre-orders being taken a year ahead of its UK launch in 1990.
The new model sports a mid-mounted, direct-injected V6 engine paired to Honda’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system with two electric motors, and a dual clutch transmission with a built-in electric motor.

The new NSX will be manufactured at a new Honda group production facility in central Ohio, in the U.S. Honda did not say if and when it will open the order books in other countries around the world.
 
Since it is dual clutch, the automatic makes sense. But what sucks is that any person would be able to drive it. I hate seeing people driving these kinds of cars that don't even know how to actually drive (as in MT). I like that as it is now with most sports cars, you have to learn stick if you want to drive. Keeps the masses away from them and makes it something special to own.

Now the only factor will be money :(

Car manufacturers go for the performance numbers nowadays. That's why the fun factor (manual trans) slowly disappears.

Very true but for these beasts i think they go with paddles since are cooler, better performance numbers and allow somebody who just buys it for the looks and show off factor to still be able to drive it.

When I took my drivers test it was on the instructors cars which all had MTs. It was a while ago but the concept is good. First learn to drive and then you can choose to forgo the manual.

On another perspective it is good that not everybody can drive MTs, at some point some punks stole a car from a parking lot of the building i used to live in. They did not bother to touch the MTs (mine included) since they did not know how to drive them :) They went for slightly older auto than a bit newer MTs. Two Civics side by side 2 years diff, they chose the AT one :)

Y'all whining about there being no manual option are ridiculous. If you want old technology, get an old NSX! New cars should be moving forward with new technology. Y'all are like the Mustang guys that got butt hurt over the independent rear suspension on the Cobra in '99, '01, and '03-4. Why would you be upset about new technology that makes the car faster? Again, if you want older technology, it's readily available in old cars.

I wouldn't change a single thing, aesthetically, about the interior in those pictures. However, I'd have to drive one for a few days to have an opinion about ergonomics, comfort, and convenience.
