Saudi man to be beheaded for 'drifting' deaths


A middle-aged Saudi man has been sentenced to death by beheading for killing two people while performing a dangerous car stunt, which was captured on video by an onlooker.
The driver, only identified as "Muttanish", was performing a drifting stunt when his car began to spin out of control near the capital of Riyadh on Tuesday,Reuters reports.
A video posted on YouTube captured the moment his car apparently hit a rock and crashed in front of a crowd assembled along the road.
Onlookers can be seen fleeing as several police vehicles rush to the scene.
A Saudi court has treated the death as the equivalent of criminally negligent homicide and sentenced the man to death by beheading.
It handed down a sentence to deter others who tamper with the nation's security, local media reported.
In 2005, a Saudi naval officer found guilty of killing three minors in a stunt-driving accident was handed a death sentence that was subsequently reduced to 3000 lashes and 20 years in prison.
It is not clear when Mutannish's sentence is scheduled to be carried out.
