k24 motor eats oil again???

Buddy of mine with the new K24Z7 said he took it off the lot and was redlining for first 500 miles every shift. In which he went through 2-3 qrts of oil. He said after the hard break in it stopped :shrug: so im assuming they used smaller piston rings and they need more time/heat to get to proper size ?
