is your place hiring?

They do have some positions open but I don't follow which ones. I should in case I want to promote but I like what I do.

We should go to lunch

If I'm in Texas I definitely want to meet up with you and @Honda-Fan .

If you are around the Baltimore/DC/Philly area let me know.

I met up with @DerWeißeTeufel when he was outside Allentown, PA for work a month or so ago. hope he's doing well. I know he's been busy.

do americans have any type of mandatory vacation pay ? just found out i have a large amount saved up over the last two years from not using much of it.

Some jobs offer a set amount of vacation you can use in a years time. You can also lose that time if it’s not used during the year. Like they won’t let you build up weeks and weeks over multiple years time to take one huge vacation. If you don’t use it during the calendar year it can be lost.

Depends on the job and the regulations they have in place.

My last jobs was that you could accrue up to 240 hours. Anything over that, you loose it. You could only take one week in at a tom(no taking a month off, multiple weeks in a row).

Hours carried over year to year.

nice, ontario does 2% off each check. some places pay it on each check, some save it up when you want to use it.

For my employer it varies with the amount of years you have.

I believe 10-15 years you can carry over 280 hours. 15-20 years you can carry over 320 hours. But of course the more years you have the more vacation time you get.

My wife & I don't take much vacation time (especially last year) so she lost about a week or so of vacation time. They should have made an exception with the pandemic but they didn't...

I dont get why they won't just give the money anyways. Why must an employee take time off work to get it ?

once a year i get the ability to sell back unused hours at 100% but have to maintain a minimum of 80 hrs in reserve to do so. My last job had two sell back periods, one for 100% and a later one for 75% value

wouldnt it be in their best interest to pay you vacation pay while you're still at work though? instead of paying you while you're gone and making them no money?

when you bring logic into it like that, yea. Im personally terrible at taking time off, my team is constantly pointing out that i havent taken time, so the ability to at least sell back some hours gets me something for being a workaholic

For me, vacation time and sick time are the same pool of hours. Through the pandemic they also realized it was a massive financial liability to have all these employees with hundreds of hours banked. So we had a bunch of "financial stewardship" programs where people had to spend down their hours taking random half and full days off so no one had more than 80 hours. We recently got caps on how many hours we can carry now too like @bootyluvr has too.

when i left my last job it worked out really well for me, they have to pay out your banked hours when you leave and i had more than 80 hours in reserve so it got me an extra pay check while i moved and before i started the new job.

I am sitting on 160 unused hours. That is the cap and I cannot earn any more than that.
