Time for ethlar's photo gear thread in the photography forum! I've seen dents nikon stuff. Don't think I've seen your gear.
 
I remember when Ethan, Dawn, Ryan and I(maybe other peeps) met up in VA when I first got the Volks. Ethan opened up his trunk and he had 3 bags of gear that took up most of the rooom in the trunk. Madness!!!
 
Which one would you pick?

I've always like HP's so I'm leaning towards that one but wanted to see what others though.. The only difference I can tell is of course the Core i5 vs Core i3.. Bigger HD on the HP.. and HP has "beats Audio".

So for $120 is it worth it? I think so but wanted to see what others thought. :)

i recently had a had a horrible experience with dell, so id go with the hp if i had to choose between the two
 
That's true too ^^^

I don't know if it's purely based on the quantity of dells floating around, but I hear way more complaints/issues/repairs on dell first hand.
 
isnt dell getting out of the home computer game soon and focusing on enterprise solutions
 
that I don't know about. I'm sure they can turn a larger profit off the racks/server side of things

Both have "Intel HD Graphics 3000" so nothing fancy. Basic which is okay with me.

I've never personally owned a Dell laptop/desktop. At work that's all we use/that's all I work on when at work. I've owned 2 HP laptops in the past with only issue being running hot (it was AMD processor) and wireless card stopped working (bought a micro-USB wireless adapter for cheap)
 
From my roommates experience I would go with the HP. Dell tends to have it's own "plug in" parts that can only be bought through Dell which tend to be higher in price. Not sure if they still do this as my roommates comp. the expericed this was fairly old.

That being said we just bought my dad a Dell Inspirion 620 tower for his birthday. He just plays web games and internet so anything would work for him.

My personal recommendation has always been Dell, even if the prices are slightly cheaper elsewhere. Their build quality tends to be superior to everyone else, in my experiences. Does that mean you won't get a bad computer or part here and there? Of course not, but that could be said for any company.
 
a bad part every now and then is expected, but 3 motherboard replacements, and 4 whole computer replacements in 2 years? and it was 2 different models cause they eventually stopped making the one i originally bought
 
I've heard of more problems first hand on the laptop side of dell, than the tower side.

Sorry to hear ethlar, I've been extremely lucky then. I've been a Dell customer since 1998 and have gone through numerous desktops and laptops without any issues at all. The only time they had a chance to ruin it for me was when they shipped me a brand new laptop with a loose screw rattling around inside, which I thankfully caught before I powered it on.

Yeah, most of the Dell disaster stories I've read about were laptops.

I bought this one about 2 weeks ago. :)
 
Sooooooo....having issues again with my comp. This time is something to do with the booting up process, in a nutshell....it doesn't start up. It will get to point where the Win logo is supposed to come up but I get a black screen and I get the little blinking "dos" icon/white bar.

I can get it to work after a couple times of hitting F10 and telling it to boot of the hard drive. Usually take 3-4 times of doing this to get it to work properly. I am just leaving the comp on now, lol.
