The “dog” was started by players like Handford Dixon and Frank Minnifield back in the 1980’s. They were both defensive players. When they’d make big plays, some of the guys like Dixon & minnifield started barking like dogs. They started the Dawg pound seating area in the endzone. Then fans sitting there would start wearing dog bones, masks and barking etc. It was never really an official logo for the team despite people petitioning for it.
