Post up your fish tanks/aquariums!

Mr keeps bringing random fish home that don't agree with the other fish....so it sounds like my tank is going to be a grow out tank for a while.
Callie (calico convict) will kill Toby. He's half the size of her and she keeps laying eggs on her own and gets very aggressive.
Lol! My gf brought home random fish for a while. Until she had too many to keep up with. Convicts are very passionate about spawning, it shows good parenting on her part.

Yeah..she causes all sorts of trouble...digging holes...getting stuck under something because of a hold she made. Constantly pissing off Severus who is 3x the size of her.
Severus seems to want to be with Toby...but Toby is half the size of Callie...and well, yeah that won't work.

They have a bunch of baby golden severums at the LFS also. They're about the size of a nickel and I want one so bad LMAO Mr says no because Toby will pick on them..lmao

It went like this until recently
Severus > Callie > Toby > Eddie

I believe it :rotfl:

I still want to do the planted tank...just deciding right now if I want to devote the entire tank to a dwarf puffer..or maybe have some other fish

Yeah :( Apart from I can be a bit impulsive when I see a cute fish at the store LOL

I see myself doing this a lot too. I almost brought home a pair of severums today.... I reminded my self the supercharger is coming out soon...... So fish swam and I walked away. Its hard but someone else will buy them and there will be more to come.

I love the severums...especially our golden..he's like a labrador :rotfl:
I freaked out in the store about the baby goldens and the micro-EBJDs...freaked

Hey Flippercon Mr decided to drill some slightly larger holes in the plastic fish tank divider that we had in the tank. It'd been sitting out of the tank for a few days drying..and had turned green from algae. Anyways...he drilled the holes and put it back in the tank and all was good for about 15mins then suddenly dark purple started coming off of the divider and one whole side of the tank had deep purple water. I instantly grabbed Toby out of that side and threw him into the breeder net. Unfortunately that side of the tank is where the filter takes in water. We removed the divider and put in a piece of plexiglass to hold off the purple spreading as fast and quickly did a 50% water change.

Any ideas what caused this reaction?

So far Severus and Callie seem unaffected. Toby on the other and doesn't seem the happiest and is teetering side to side occasionally...

That is odd. I have not seen anything like this. I have done a little bit of research on algae blooms.
"A high enough concentration of algae in the water may become discoloured or murky, varying in colour from purple to almost pink, normally being red or green. Not all algal blooms are dense enough to cause water discolouration."
from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algal_bloom
You did the right thing by the big water change. I would break the filters down and rinse them with Treated water (dechlorinated) and reassemble. Run the tank then drip acclimate your fish back to the tank.Keep an eye on them as you drip acclimate, make sure they are not acting funny.
How to drip acclimate

If you don't have the green valve to adjust the flow just tie a knot in the line and control the flow that way.

Interesting. Unfortunately we had to run to class as he was running late because of this disaster. Class shouldn't be too long and then we'll be going back to deal with this. It really freaked us out

I wanted to take a pic of it...but we needed to deal with it first. It was almost as if we'd dropped a high concentration of grape Kool-Aid into the tank. With the 55gal being divided about 40/15 and the 15 getting the purple

When you get home make some new water up about half a bucket. Then take the clean side water (not purple) from tank and fill the bucket almost the rest of the way up. Remove fish and place in bucket.
Perform another 50% water change on tank with divider removed ,or drain purple side all the way down if it allows. Basically you are going to dilute it as much as possible. Then re introduce the fish by the drip method/drip acclimation.
Pay attention to the fish as they are being introduced back to the tanks water. If you see them flashing (scratching them selves against things) do another partial water change about 35% to 50%. Turn lights off when fish are in tank for a few days to keep the stress levels low.

The tank was opened up...as we instantly sucked out the purple water from the small section...once it cleared up a bit..we added in new water and removed the divider.
then I went for the side where the water comes in from the filter to get what purple made it over there. We removed and replaced quite a bit. so probably 80% of the purple is gone...if not more. gosh it was scary. I sure hope we don't lose any of them.

Well you guys did the majority of the work. To be safe you guys should preform another water change and keep any eye out on the fish. Keeping the lights off is a good practice and see if they come out to eat. A hungry fish is a healthy fish.
