SCRAPED FRONT LIP ON MY NEW HFP SI...OMG

Could have been a habit coming from motorcycles. Always left them in neutral. I was riding bikes before driving manual cars.
I'm pretty sure I started doing both(EB & gear) when I was driving(parking on the flight line), it was a must, and again later driving semi's.
And of course MC's....... Put it in gear let it roll till the gear holds it, then put the side stand down(takes the slack off so it won't roll off the side stand).

I don't personally know of any people that leave their bikes in gear. Us eBrake only people are few and far between as best I can tell. The worst part is when I have taken my cars in to get work done. I always forget to check if it is in gear and start the car.

For the $6-8, try the white plasti first and see if that doesn't cover it well enough.

My car is the si HFP edition so it comes lowered about an inch from the base SI. Now that this has happened, I will always make sure I put it in gear. I'm going to try and plasti dip it myself.....anyone know where I can buy white plasti dip in Toronto? Can I purchase this stuff online?

That's plastic, nothing will rust, just touch it up with some paint or plasti dip. Or just leave it if you can't see it.

I don't park in gear normally but I also live in a place that is mostly flat. On an incline I park in gear plus e-brake and wheels chocked if parallel parked (mostly just parking lots, so no wheel chocking would help)

Welcome to the club, I guess.

Pulling out of a driveway on a slope, I dragged a lot.
Pull too far into a spot, scrape.
Of course the best...didn't hit the curb itself, but the piece of rebar in the curb sticking out half an inch fishhooked the lip kit and broke clips in the bumper when backing out and bumper didn't go with the rest of the car ($1652 later)...you learn the lesson to stay away from the curbs.

At the end of the day, they're plastic and the lip kit being sacrificial is cheaper than the bumper.

Just think of all these peeps that lower their cars, it's the same as a man that gets a knife scar, or one that got a paper cut. Some you're proud of, some you try to hide........ In this case it's easy to hide......:D

Lol well at least it was only one side. Seeing as how it's plastic I'm not too worried. But it is painful to get a scrape when it's only 2 weeks old.

I agree, I'd hate it too, And mines over a year old.

Are you saying if I left my lights on they'd turn off by themselves??????
I just checked my ex, and it doesn't have that feature, but it does "Ding-Dong" If I were to leave them on.

not to hijack this thread, but just FYI, even the civics that don't have auto on/off headlights have an auto-off feature if you forget to turn the lights off when you leave the car. the timer is adjustable in via the i-MID under customize settings. default setting is 15 seconds.

Why would you Not put it in gear? I never realized ppl just don't do it.
I think it's personal preference, a debate that could last forever like whether to change your oil every 3-5k miles or whether a break-in period is necessary on a new car.

I used to always e-brake + leave my car in gear. But with my Si, I leave it in neutral + e-brake. But now that I've experienced my car rolling away from not pulling the e-brake high enough (to me, it seems the Si's e-brake has to be pulled unusually higher than other cars), I'm tempted to going back to leaving my car in gear + e-brake.

I think my concern is unnecessary wear/tear on the gears by leaving it in gear when parked. But if the e-brake is holding well enough, I can't imagine the car to roll much to affect the gears.

Anyway, does anyone have any articles or proof that e-brake + gear or e-brake only is better than the other?

[Sorry to thread jack.]

Phaheem "Anyway, does anyone have any articles or proof that e-brake + gear or e-brake only is better than the other?"

The proof I have is learning from others.
Automatic trans, or manual, the proper sequence for parking(as far as e-brake and gears), is to put the e-brake on 1st so there will not be any roll to put pressure on the gears, so when you're ready to leave(debark), you won't have any stress on the gears.
Also it's preferred to park in 1st gear(being the lowest and largest gear/cog, it has the least amount of chance to roll, or reverse if parked up hill).
There's no reason "not" to use both to park.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I think ppl should do what I say. I'm just saying that from my experience and from what I've learned from other ppl, that using both will keep the roll aways from happening.

Once on my Jeep I was working on it with the engine running, so all I had on was the e-brake where as I was lazy and didn't chock it(being on a very easy grade), well the e-brake popped off(was a recall on it, which I never bothered to get done), it rolled back over the flowers and other soft vegetation and didn't hurt the Jeep, not so much the flowers. That's proof enough for me. I don't see anything wrong with learning from what others have learned, saw, heard, etc., why wait till it happens to me.

Yeah I agree that parking in gear + e-brake is a safer alternative in case the e-brake loses it's grip. And you make a good point to engage the e-brake and make sure it's holding tight before leaving it in gear.

Like I said, I've always been putting doing both; but on the Si, it's been e-brake only. I'll go back to the old ways.

Hopefully more people can chime in on this with their experiences?

That setting controls the headlights when they've been turned off. For example, if the switch is on and you turn the car off the lights should stay on for that amount of time even if you manually turn them off via the stalk. For example my auto lights turn off when I turn the car off because I have it that setting turned to not stay on, but if I leave the setting at a certain length of time, the lights will stay on even though the car is off and the stalk auto setting tells the headlights to turn off.
